COMPANY I OF WORLD WAR I HOLD REUNION SUNDAY

Just thirty years ago at this time, the Glenwood Armory resounded to the routine drills of 149 men and three officers who were stationed there prior to leaving for Camp Dodge.  On August 17th over 3,000 Glenwood citizens lined depot street to see them off at the station.  A short time later they were serving overseas, returning after the war to their homes.

Time has dwindled their ranks.  Members have moved far away.  However, of that original 152 men nearly 30 gathered at the armory on Sunday, July 27, in one of the best reunions of their organization.

From a distance came Everett Kirkendall of Whittier, California and Joe Banter of Ashland, Ohio.  There were men from Ames and from Burlington, Iowa, besides numerous Omaha, Council Bluffs and nearby cities.

Officers elected for the coming year are:  Alfred Wilson of Omaha, president; James Endicott of Glenwood, vice president; Phillip Minner of Council Bluffs, secretary and treasurer; Frank Logan of Glenwood, historian; Ed Hayes of Glenwood, chaplain; Mrs. Myrtle Hayes of Council Bluffs, honorary president.

Wives of the members served a bountiful banquet on red, white and blue decorated tables garnished with donated flowers for the occasion by the Hofmockel Flower Shop.  The flowers were later distributed to sick persons in the city.
