This information is from LDS Microfilm # 1502657, items 1 and 2. The Mills County Iowa Cemeteries book, published in the early 1980's by the Hastings Federated Woman's Club and no longer in print, was referenced often to help determine correct spellings. Transcribed by Cay Merrymen.

The symbol * after a veteran's name indicates that additional information is available from the record of that person, usually at least the father's name. Often the name of the mother, including maiden name; the wife, including maiden name; and the children are given. Other information might include whether the veteran received a pension, his place of birth, place of enlistment, place of discharge, the informant,and often there is an attached sheet with other items of information. Sometimes there is very little information and it may differ somewhat from the birth and death dates and military outfits that are given on the tombstone.

Only information for veterans of WW I and earlier were extracted, although many WW II veterans were also recorded. In some cases the typed form is so fuzzy as to be virtually unreadable.

This transcription has taken many hours, many days, and I still feel it is less than reliable. Before you accept anything that is in these files, check to be sure it is correct. .... Cay Merryman
