September 28, 1977
The Annual reunion of the 168th Infantry, and Rainbow Division, of World War I was held on September 28, 1977; at the Mills County Savings and Loan building.
There were five members of the old Company I present along with their wives and widows of the veterans.
Those present were: Jesse Picht, Lake City; William Phillips, Council Bluffs; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Christopher, Sidney; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Benedict, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Sawyer
, Mrs. Ed Pein, Mrs. Wilbur Benscoter and Mrs. Jess Hunter, all of Glenwood.
A dinner was served by the Ladies of Pythian Sisters Chaplain. Chaplain William Phillips offered the invocation.
A business meeting was held following the dinner and it was voted to retain the following officers:
Jesse Picht, president; Al Christopher, vice president; Norman Benedict, 2nd vice president; and Warren Sawyer, treasurer.
It was decided that when the club is terminated, the remaining funds would be given to a veterans organization.
There were six deaths reported in the last year. Reported were: Guy Farrington, Roy Gallager, La Rue Martin, Ed Pein, Ralph Linville and Shirley Lewis.
Letters were read from these veterans who couldn't attend: William Haley, Phil Minner, Clarence Day and Mrs. Shirley Lewis.
Also some clippings were presented by Jesse Picht telling about the battles and experiences they encountered during the war and about the memorials that have been erected in France in
honor of the Rainbow Division.
