SIX GENERATIONS OF FAMILY IN SERVICE
Glenwood Opinion Tribune
November 12, 1942
The Shenandoah Sentinel recently carried the story of the enlistment of
Hudson King of Merced, California. The young man is a nephew of Mrs.
Willard Gaston of Shenandoah and a grandson of Charles P. King who was a
captain in the Civil War and later served as postmaster of Glenwood during the
Cleveland administration. This lad is the sixth generation of Kings who
have served in the U.S. regular army. His father, Reuben King, who will be
remembered here by the older residents, enlisted in the U.S. regulars in 1902
and served through until the close of World War I advancing to the rank of
sergeant-major.
