To all Whom it may Concern:

Know ye, that James Douglass, a Private of Captain Marquis L. Andrews Company ( B ) 29 Regiment of Iowa Infantry Volunteers who was enrolled on the Eleventh day of August one thousand eight hundred and 62 to serve three years or during the war, is hereby discharged from the service of the United States, this tenth day of August 1865, at New Orleans, Louisiana by reason of service, no longer being required. (No objection to his being re-enlisted is known to exist*).

Said James Douglass was born in the state of Scotland, is 42 years of age, five feet ten inches high, dark complexion, black eyes, black hair, and by occupation when enrolled, a engineer.

Given at New Orleans this tenth day of August 1865

(*This sentence will be erased should there be anything in the conduct or physical condition of the soldier rendering him unfit for the army).
