Early Methodist ministers of southwest Iowa, were often Circuit Riders that traveled from one group to another. Rev. Isaac O'Flynn of the Hillsdale Circuit had four points he oversaw. He saw the need of a Methodist Episcopal Church in Silver City, and added a fifth point. The church was first recorded on October 12, 1881. The architect and builder of the new church was Phillip Spencer of Silver City.

Early members were Robert Plumb, John Parker, A.U. Crosby, G. N. Mandigo, Benjamin Weidner, Ben Martin, Adam Markel, J. C. Christy, James and John Frazier, J. P. Fall, O. W. Chapman, Mrs. W. G. Moore, Mrs. Dorothy Campbell and Mrs. Mary Sidener.
