The origin of our church dates back to March 9, 1873, at the residence of W. S. Goodall. After much prayer, it was decided on April 5, 1873, that the body of Baptist believers be organized into the First Baptist Church of Emerson with eight charter members: Mr./Mrs. Wm. Treat, Mr./Mrs. J. B. Shaub, Mr./Mrs. S. Green, Rev. E. Loomer and Mrs. Stewart. Rev. E. Loomer conducted the first worship service in the CB&Q Railroad Depot on April 4, 1873.
      Rev. Pattison was the first pastor to serve the church regularly on half-time basis after October 10, 1873. The church called its first full time pastor in 1877, the Rev. J. H. Pratt. In early 1875 it was decided to construct a church building. Two years and seven months later on October 7, 1877, the building was dedicated. Major improvements were made with a few additions in the coming years.
      Ground breaking for a new building began in the fall of 1965, just across the street on the former site of the Emerson Public School. The first service was on Palm Sunday, April 3. 1966. which coincided with the church’s 93rd anniversary. It was dedicated on May 22, 1966, and is still the present site of the church. Six years later saw the burning of the the mortgage on April 9, 1972. Recent improvements include air conditioning, new steeple, and stained glass windows.
      Over the years, the church has always supported a Sunday School ministry and had a world missionary vision for the lost. 38 pastors have served the church to the present and it has realized well over 1200 members throughout its long history.
