Congregational Church

~ transcribed by Cay Merryman

The Glenwood Congregational Church was organized October 19, 1856. Rev. John Todd, pastor of the Congregational Church in  Tabor, Fremont County, Iowa rode horseback on alternate Sundays to hold worship services in Glenwood. Those present at the organization were David and Katherine Briggs, William and Ruth Hopkins, Clara Bosbyshell, Elizabeth Bannon and Cornelia Williams. Ground for the church was purchased from Joseph and Elizabeth Coolidge and a building was erected in 1857.
In 1957, Congregational churches joined with the Evangelical and Reform churches on a national level, to become the United Church of Christ. See Membership Records
