The history of our church reaches back into pioneer days and the mid l850’s with the desire of the early pioneers to have a place of worship. In 1857 several families decided to officially form a church and met to hold their organizational meeting.

Those attending this first meeting included Judge Deupree, Charles Evans, James Roberts, George Linville and Thomas Hartford families.

The first services were held in a log Schoolhouse known as Deupree School, located northeast of Glenwood, and the Gordon Mill Pond was used year round for baptisms.

After some five years, they began meeting in the old courthouse west of the Hinchman bank and then met at the new courthouse when it was constructed In 1867 a new brick building was constructed for worship and it remains today just east of the Masonic Temple.

In 1892 property was purchased at Second and Vine and the present wooden church was constructed including a full basement, which was added in 1932.

A major remodeling project was undertaken in 1982, which included the foyer addition, including basement classrooms, offices and an enlargement renovation of the sanctuary. It serves today as the worship center of the church.

The church has enjoyed considerable growth during its long history and today is a very active and thriving worship center in our community. Long Range Planning Committee is currently planning for the 150th year celebration and laying plans for the future growth and needs of our active and growing congregation. At our church, “we are proud of our heritage in Glenwood and excited about our church‘s future”
