How to find Mahaska county Vital Records.Mahaska county was formed in 1843-44 from the unorganized part of the Iowa which did not become a state until 1846. Vital records were first collected according to law in 1880 and Mahaska included birth and deaths from that date. Marriages were recorded from 1844 in this county as were land, probate, and court records.
The LDS Family History Library has microfilm copies of birth records from 1889, deaths from 1880, and marriages from 1844.
