- PERRYMAN
- George Washington PERRYMAN, b. 1810-1819, Columbia, Adair Co. KY,
settled in Henry Co. Iowa in 1842 with his brother Thomas Jefferson
Perryman, having come from Russell Co. KY with others in a covered wagon.
Thomas, b. Jan 9, 1821, Adair Co. KY; m. Feb 23, 1843 in Henry
Co. Iowa to Eliza Jane FARLEY, daughter of Silas FARLEY and Mrs.Cordelia
TADE HANNAH. On Nov 5, 1849, George m. Mary Jane BONSELL, b.
1823 PA. In 1854 they settled in Prairie Township, Mahaska Co.,
Iowa. Children: Nancy J., b. 1855; m. Ernest SHAAD; James
E, b. 1857; Eliza E, b. 1862. In the 1885 census, an Edmond Perryman age 27
was living with them.
Iowa Census records list W. C. Bonsell, b. @1800, PA, as a miller.
Was he the father of Mary? Census records indicate George was born c.
1819, but family records indicate he was much older than his brother
Thomas, and 1810 is indicated.
Have 1880's letters from Lida E. Perryman, New Sharon Iowa, to her cousin
Lemuel Perryman. She married Edwin CHEW of Union T.P. (Mar 15, 1888.)
Nancy Perryman: letter dated Feb. 8, 1890 from Mrs L.C. BIDOMAN confirms that
she was Nancy Perryman, sister of George and Thomas, and mother of May and
Nettie. (Major L.C. Bidoman operated the Nauvoo house in Nauvoo,
Illinois. During the anti-Mormon agitation, he was one of the few
gentiles who treated the Mormons fairly. After the death of Joseph
Smith, the widow Emma Smith married Major Bidoman.)
Letters from her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Jennett ABERCROMBIE Thomas of
Kansas City MO. indicate another daughter, Mrs. May Luce of Kansas. Does
this indicate a first husband for Nancy named Abercrombie? Letter from
Lida Perryman refers to her Aunt Nancy marrying Major Bidoman, and
indicates prior to the marriage and move to Nauvoo Illinois that Nancy
lived in Iowa near her brothers George and Thomas Perryman.
Will exchange copies of letters, other information with researchers of
this family.

- PHELPS
- We found the cemetery in Mahaska co. where some of the Phelps
were buried. We found Sylvester and his wife, children: Julia,
Sophronia, and Albert. Charles d. in Portland, OR; still haven't
found much on Daniel or Horan. Sylvester Phelps was b.
in CT on May 4, 1786; migrated to OH where he m. Maria Lathrop,
June 24, 1818. In 1848, he came to Mahaska co. where he reamined
the rest of his days. He and his wife are buried in the Baldwin cemetery
in the NW corner of Mahaska co. His son, Charles, lived in Mahaska
co. until some time after 1887, when he moved to Portland, OR.
The book I got this information from (pub. 1887) lists the oldest
children (Emma, Lida, Edna) as residing in KS & NE. William Henry,
my g-grandfather, stayed in Mahaska co and buried in Oskaloosa.
The book state that William H, Julia C, Lyman L, Robert O, and Neta
May are still at home (in 1887). My aunt found a news clipping of
William H.'s funeral that states: He is survived by two sisters,
Emma Savage, of Mitchell, NE; Nita Starker, of
Portland, OR; three brothers, Julius C, and Leslie L. of Portland, OR;
and Oliver R. of New Sharon. I am guessing that the book was the one
with the names wrong, as all of my relatives have referred to them as Julius
and O.R. Phelps. So as far as I can gather, Leslie L, Oliver R,
and Nita May must have gone to Portland with their father and mother.
Would contact any relations with these people.
