Shown below are veterans of the War of 1812 known to have resided in Madison County, Iowa. The National Archives has an interesting viewpoint on the War of 1812 as it pertains to genealogy.
County Coordinator's Note:  The War of 1812 concluded about 30 years prior to the first settlement of Madison County.  The people listed below are veterans of that war who served from various eastern states and eventually moved to Iowa.  Please check the OBITUARY INDEX to see if more information may be available.

There are a few local newspaper listing provide clues of who may have served in this war with later residence in Madison County.  The County Coordinators are therefore reliant on descendants for obtaining data for this list.  Your inputs are encouraged and welcome.

Burnett, Absolom William Gannaway's Kentucky Militia [Index of War of 1812 Pensioners, Vol. 1. Absolom moved to Madison County from Illinois in the mid-1850s stayed a few years and then returned to Illinois.]
