Shown below are veterans of the War of 1812 known to have resided in Madison County, Iowa. The National Archives has an interesting viewpoint on the War of 1812 as it pertains to genealogy.
County Coordinator's Note:  The War of 1812 concluded about 30 years prior to the first settlement of Madison County.  The people listed below are veterans of that war who served from various eastern states and eventually moved to Iowa. There are a few local newspaper listing provide clues of who may have served in this war with later residence in Madison County.  The County Coordinators are therefore reliant on descendants for obtaining data for this list.  Your inputs are encouraged and welcome.

Mohler, Samuel L. Served 3 years in the U.S. Navy under Commodore Porter and then enlisted in the Army, serving under General Taylor of East Tennessee and then General Jackson of the 7th US Infantry.  Fought in battles of New Orleans and Pensacola and several other engagements of the war.
