EARLY BIRTHS

 

The following is a copy of the first births and baptisms among the early settlers, along the Big Sioux River in Lyon County, Iowa as they were recorded by early pastors, and are still kept and preserved in the files of the Lutheran congregation, at Canton, South Dakota, where the first resident pastor Reverend Eilef Olson lived.

 

  • Oline Olson, born July 14, 1869, baptized October 31, 1869, parents: Hans Jacob and Thorborg Olson.
  • Lara Christian, born August 2, 1869, baptized October 31, 1869, parents: Simon Tobiason and Ingeborg Birkeland.
  • Simon Sorenson, born November 3, 1869, baptized December 25,1869, parents: Ole and Margit Sorenson.
  • Karl Hanson, born November 17, 1869, baptized December 25,1869, parents Morten and Curo Hanson.
  • Hans Martinius Hansen, born January 20, 1870, baptized March 2, 1870, parents: Tosten Hansen and Ambjor Kaarstad.
  • Ole Syversen, born May 8, 1870, baptized June 6, 1870, parents: Aanend and Oline Syversen.
  • Tollef Edward Tollefsen, born October 10, 1870, baptized November 27, 1870, parents: Haagen and Maren Dortea Pauline Tollefsen.
  • Jesine Tobiasen, born October 23, 1870, baptized November 27, 1870, parents: Theis Jacob and Torbor Tobiasen.
  • Elise Helgesen, born November 12, 1870, baptized November 27, 1870, parents: Knut and Begge Helgesen.
  • Margit Knudson, born April 18, 1869, baptized July 20, 1869, parents: Ole and Ane Knudson.
