• Gardner, Washington W. -- In 1861 he enlisted in Company C, First Battalion Thirteenth United States Regular Infantry, with headquarters then at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. He enlisted at Dubuque, and was appointed company clerk.
  

  The first of the following December the regiment was assigned to the First Brigade, Second Division, Fifteenth Army Corps, and on the 20th day of that month started for Vicksburg under command of General Sherman, being transported on board the steamer  "Forest Queen."
  
  Sergeant Gardner was made first Lieutenant, May 26, 1864, and was assigned to the One Hundredth Colored Infantry as senior First Lieutenant, at once reporting for duty at Camp Foster, where he was assigned to the command of Company A.
  
  For years he has been an active member of the Grand Army of the Republic, and is a past commander of Dunlap Post, No.147, Department of Iowa. He has been quartermaster general of this department, and was aide de camp on the staff of Governor Larrabee with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
  
  W.W. Gardner is died on 4/29/1913 and is buried with many other members of his family in Riverview Cemetery, Rock Rapids, IA.

• Herbst, John -- Died December 27, 1925; served as a volunteer under General Sherman where he was with a regiment that made the famous march "from Atlanta to the sea." Each member was greeted personally by President Lincoln. Burial in Larchwood Cemetery, Larchwood, Iowa

• Horsfall, William -- born 3/17/1847 in Ohio served in the Civil War 1863-1865; died 9/9/1920 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Burial in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, George, Iowa

• Lewis, E.W. -- died September 19, 1903; enlisted during the Civil War August 4, 1862, in Company D, 124th Pennsylvania. He was discharged May 15, 1863 and reenlisted June 17, 1863, serving until August 1 the same year, in Company 1, 29th Pennsylvania. Burial in Larchwood Cemetery, Larchwood, Iowa

• Mills, Robert Herman -- born at Nashville, Tennessee; was a soldier in the Civil War 6th Kansas Caveleif; died 3/4/1901. Burial in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, George, Iowa.
• Naugle, Henry -- died October 12, 1922; born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, served two enlistments in the Civil War. Burial in Larchwood Cemetery, Larchwood, Iowa
• O' Connell, Patrick "Frank" -- born 1840, died May 12, 1920. Burial in the Larchwood Catholic Cemetery
• Pruitt, William -- died June 22. 1937; served in the Civil War as did five of his brothers. Mr. Pruitt enlisted in the 50th Indiana Infantry in 1861 and served for four years. He was captured by rebel sharpshooters and held captive for a couple weeks. The hardest experience that he had, he said, was when he was compelled to force one of his company into the line of battle. This man later became one of his very best soldiers. Burial in Larchwood Cemetery, Larchwood, Iowa
