Minutes of the Lester Town Council 1899

Special meeting of council as board of health to take action regarding the small pox scare at Alvord this December 14, 1899.

Present: J.F. Buchanan, Mayor, and councilman J.M. Dugan, J.L. Mitchell, Joseph Brucken and H. Hollenbeck.

Absent: councilman W.H. Pingrey and F.L. Beck.

Council J.L. Mitchell presented the following resolution as covering the case--

Whereas thelocal board of health of the incorporated town of Lester, Iowa, being satisfied that several cases of small pox exist in the incorporated town of Alvord, Iowa, and that numerous person in said town have been exposed thereto and being satisfied that quarantine measures are ineffective therein.  Therefore be it resolved by the local board of health of the incorporated town of Lester, Iowa, that all residents of the incorporated town of Alvord, Iowa, and all person immediately thereto adjacent who have been quarantined or exposed to the contagion of small pox are hereby forbidden to enter the incorporated town of Lester, Iowa, are hereby enjoined from entering the incorporated town of Alvord, Iowa, during the prevalence of small pox in said town of Alvord, Iowa.

Anyone violating the provisions of this resolution shall be arrested and dealt with in accordance with statutes and ordinances in such cases made provides.

This resolution to be in full force and effect until notice of its discontinuance shall have been duly published.

Passed the board this 14th day of December, 1899.
