Douglas Cemetery
Located in Lincoln Township, Lucas Co., Iowa.

Douglass Cemetery, is 1 of the oldest. if not the oldest cemetery in Lucas county. This Cemetery is the original Chariton Cemetery. It is located in Lincoln township, section 32. This Cemetery however was abandoned long ago, and is likely to be named after Noble Douglass. Noble once owned the land it sits on.

Hiram Wilson, who was lynched in Chariton in 1870 for the murder of Gaylord Lyman ( Sheriff ). Hiram is believed the first man buried in Potter's field of Douglass Cemetery. ( source ) Chariton leader, May 22nd and 29th of 1951. These names are from the records of Mrs. Harmon Wells. Jim Ryan, the superintendent at the time. of Chariton Cemetery, had unearthed the headstones. At the old Douglass Cemetery. Those 62 names are as numbered, and followed.
