In Louisa county there were four schools which measured up to the requirements for a standard school during the 1935-36 school year, according to the county superintendent, Miss Ada Smith.
The schools were Toolesboro, taught by Ruby Kelly. This school received $76. Victory, taught by Miriam Lieberknecht, received $24.65; and Frog Pond, taught by Gladys Ball, received $53.41.
Standard school requirements include condition of school house, proper ventilation, clean well kept buildings and yards, teacher must have either a 1st grade county or standard elementary certificate and two years experience.
This money which is allotted by the state must be used for improvement in instruction. They are paid according to the number of pupils in school.
Standard schools are required to have an average attendance of 10 each day.
