Samuel and Elizabeth Wilson Boke ca 1900. Samuel was born in 1845 and died in 1916. His family moved to Louisa County in 1852. Samuel fought in the Civil War. Elizabeth was born in 1847 and moved to Louisa County in 1878. She died in 1921. Courtesy Jo Phillips

| Aner Nearhood, son of George and Rachel Mitchell Nearhood, was born in Wapello, Sept. 21, 1863, and died at his home here March 10, 1945, having spent 81 years and six months in the town of his birth and doing his fair share toward its growth and progress along many lines. When 22 years of age he became town marshall and continued in that capacity 25 years, retiring in October 1920. Later he served as marshall at different times making in all about 30 years. He was also constable; for two years he was councilman in first ward and was one of our active firemen..(this part illegible)..permitted, being fire chief for a number of years. He was very active in lodge circles being initiated into the I.O.O.F. Dec. 19, 1892, and was the proud prosessor of a fifty-year jewel presented at a public reception honoring 50 year Odd Fellows. In April 7, 1899, he became a member of the Rebekah lodge; on May 24, 1900 was Patriarch of the Encampment, and attended grand lodge that year. He was also active in the Knights of Pythias and the local Masonic lodge. Submitted by Marsha Ament |
