FRANK TUSTISON, M.D., a prominent physician of our county, and now residing in Wapello, was born on the 25th day of January, 1837, in Crawford County, Ohio. He was the oldest of ten children, whose parents were Charles Tustison and Sarah Cox. His father was a native of Philadelphia. His mother was a native of Ohio. His father followed agricultural pursuits through life and died in Edgar County, Illinois, in 1866. The very early education of the subject of this sketch was in the elementary branches pertaining to an English education. In 1868 he entered Newville Academy and obtained a classical education, with a view of entering upon the medical profession. After an interval of one year devoted to farming he initiated the study of medicine under the direction of Dr. Hull, a prominent medical man of Newville, Indiana. He pursued his studies under the direction of Dr. Hull for about one year and a-half. In 1872 he moved to Iowa and settled at Ainsworth, Washington County. While residing at Ainsworth he attended a course of medical lectures at the Keokuk Medical College, and graduated with honor. After his graduation from Keokuk he continued the practice of medicine at Ainsworth with success. He then moved to Wapello, and has resided there ever since, engaged in the practice of medicine. He has associated with him Dr. Wm. S. Grimes, a native of Virginia, and a gentlemen distinguished for courtesy and a thorough education—being a graduate of the famous Rush Medical College.

It will be in taste to here observe that the doctor has been eminently successful in the practice of medicine, and is naturally and educationally well adapted for the discharge of its arduous and responsible duties.

On the 30th day of November, 1859, he was united in marriage to Martha Thompson, a native of Defiance County, Ohio. He is the father of four children, three of whom are living. On the 5th day of August, 1872, the doctor lost his wife. Politically, he is a strong democrat. Religiously, his views are by no means circumscribed by the doctrines of any particular church. Socially, he is pleasant and affable, and is much respected by all who know him.
