JOHN C. PRESBURY, a prominent farmer of our county, and now residing in Wapello, was born on the 15th day of May, 1840, in Jefferson County, Ohio. He was the third of seven children whose parents were Septimus Presbury and Louisa Kiniskey. His father was a native of Maryland, and his mother was of German extraction.
The early education of John was merely in the branches pertaining to an ordinary English education. He was early inured to labor, and at the age of twenty started in life for himself. He was about one year of age when his parents came to this country in 1841. His parents were amongst the earliest settlers of this county, and his father at a date prior to his coming here was an early explorer, visiting Prairie du Chien. Mr. Presbury’s pursuits in life have been of an agricultural nature, and he is now prominent as an agriculturist.
In the year 1869, he was united in marriage to Mary Mason, a native of Ohio. He is the father of six children, four of whom are living. Politically, he is a republican. Religiously, his sympathies are with the Methodist Church. Socially, he is pleasant and affable, and is very much respected in the community in which he lives.
