HILTON M. LETTS, a leading farmer of Columbus City Township, was born in 1857, in Grand View Township, and is a son of N. M. Letts, whose sketch appears on another page of this volume. His boyhood days were passed upon a farm in Grand View Township, and his primary education was received at the district schools, though he subsequently attended the Agricultural College at Ames, Iowa, for a year. In 1880 he was united in marriage with Miss Nellie Springer, a daughter of Judge Springer, one of the prominent citizens of the county, and after his marriage engaged in farming in Grand View Township for a year. He then removed to Columbus City Township, where he yet resides, and is the owner of 900 acres of fine land, which is highly improved.

Two children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Letts, daughters, Liana and Mary Helen. In 1885 he was elected one of the Supervisors of Louisa County, and during the last year served as President of the board. He is a Republican in politics, and one of the progressive and enterprising farmers of Columbus City Township, where he is highly respected.
