Welcome to the Louisa County, Iowa, Gravestone Photo Project. Our mission is to preserve digital images of stones and to assist researchers in making connections.

Feel free to search this site for your Louisa County ancestors. And, if you have them, please add photos of gravestones located in Louisa County to the database. There is a comment area where you may record the information from the stone (especially if it is difficult to read) or you may add additional information such as parents or spouse. You can choose to be listed as the contributor so others may find you. We hope you will find our Gravestone Photo Project a valuable tool.

If you have a photo of a gravestone without a death date and you know the death date, please include it in the comment area when you submit the photo.

Note: There are two cemeteries in Louisa County that have used the name Oakland Cemetery. One is in Marshall Township and is well cared for. The other is in Oakland Township and has had several names including Blake, Coffin, Carpenter and Smith.  At least eight Civil War soldiers are buried at the Oakland Township Cemetery.  Access has recently been cleared as has the cemetery itself. The official name is now Coffin-Carpenter Cemetery. The former town of Oakland was located north of the cemetery and can be located on the Louisa County Map where Bullis Farm Cemetery is noted.

Note: If you are looking for Sharon/Covenantor Cemetery gravestone photos, you will find them at the Des Moines County Gravestone Photo Project.  Although many of the people buried there were Louisa County residents, the Sharon Reformed Presbyterian church and cemetery are located in Des Moines County, barely south of the Louisa-Des Moines County line. There is another Covenantor Cemetery in Elm Grove Township in Louisa County near Wyman.
