The following information on the BERGEN families of Des Moines, Louisa,Muscatine and other counties in Iowa and Illinois was researched, collectedand organized by Keith Street for Bill Bergen, now deceased, formerly of Aledo, Illinois. This was a work in progress and was never completed. Informationon some members of the families is sketchy, incomplete and portions may beinaccurate. All the children in the family may not be listed. Information presented here should be used as the basis for continued research. Therewere several different Bergen families and connections between all of themhave not been established.

One Bergen family in Muscatine County came from Ireland. Martin and MargaretKey Bergen were born in Ireland, circa 1820, and came to Muscatine Countyin 1853 and remained there.
