Wapello Woman Takes Up Work as Postmaster

Wapello, Ia., Nov. 16 – Mrs. Laura G. Bigger begun her new duties as acting postmaster Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Bigger was named by Congressman W.F. Kopp to succeed her husband, J.A. Bigger, who death occurred Nov. 3.

To fill the vacancy caused by Mr. Bigger’s death it will be necessary to hold a civil service examination. It will probably be several months before this can be done.

R.G. Hawkins Buys Wapello Tribune; Discontinues Paper

Wapello, Ia., Nov. 16 – Wapello Tribune, published by the late J.A. Bigger, who died Nov. 3, has been sold to R. G. Hawkins, publisher of the Wapello Republican, according to an announcement made this morning. The consideration was not learned.

The Tribune was established in 1898 and was one of the leading weekly papers of this part of the state. The Republican, also a prominent newspaper, will continue alone in the field as the Tribune has been discontinued, according to Mr. Hawkins.

Mr. Hawkins is a well known newspaper man having been in Wapello since 1896.
