Dear Pastors and Local Church Historians:

    Following is a guide for you in preparing the annual Historic statement of your church. We urge you to write a brief statement of your church's activities and accomplishments based on the calendar year, to enter such a statement in your permanent record book, and to send a copy of this historical statement to the Conference Historian.

    The Historical Statement should be typed. It should include the name of the church, the Pastor's name (other officials of the church if desired), and the year. The statement should be as brief as possible, yet containing essential information concerning your church.

    Following is a guide of what might be included in this statement.

    Special Days - Youth Sunday, World Service Day, Men's Day, Anniversaries, Etc.

    Special Events: Mission Emphasis Evangelistic Work
      Stewardship Emphasis Institutes (S S. Bible School, etc.)
      Lenten Services Harvest Home.

    Attendance - of services. Increase or decrease, why?

    Relation of Church to Community - Participation in community events.

    Population increase or decline and its effect on the church. the effect of industry and/or agriculture on the church, (strike, drought, etc.)

    Money raiser - Total for all purposes. Total for missions.

    Spiritual Life - Can use names here. Baptisms
    Conversions Weddings
    Membership gain or loss Funerals

    Improvements - On Church and parsonage (and possible cemetery or other property)

    What were they?     What was the cost?      Indebtedness?

    Christian Education-
    Catechical Class    Sunday School (enrollment, picnic, new classes)

    Vacation Bible School Leadership Training Classes

    Music - Choir programs. New Hymnals. Services by music groups (quartets, trio, sextet, chorus, orchestra, etc.)

    Organizations - Any new ones? New life in old ones? Outstanding achievements in Youth Fellowship,

    WMS, Men's groups, Boys and Girls Fellowship, other.

    Other - Outstanding answers to prayer.

    Humerous incidents in the life of the church.

    Future plans for the church.

    Let's have a historical statement from every church! (we received them from 25 churches for the year 1957). I'm sure each church has had events, programs and experiences that ought to be recorded.
