Buffington Cemetery
Elm Grove Township
Twp. 74 North Range 5 West of 5th P.M., NE 1/4 NE 1/4, Section 14
Directions from Columbus City, follow County Road 17 south for approx. five miles. Turn east onto 110 Street. The cemetery is located in a back field of the old Buffington farm. Many years ago a man in the vicinity of the Buffington Cemetery built a new barn and needing some foundation stones for his barn, he used the tombstones from the Buffington Cemetery. Fortunately, a record of that cemetery has survived through the family records of the Buffington Family.
It is interesting to note that Phillip C. Buffington had an infant buried in this cemetery, but his wife was buried in the Fulton-Cairo Cemetery and P.C. Buffington himself was buried in the Spring Run Cemetery. Unfortunately, his name was omitted from the published Louisa County Cemetery records. The Buffington Cemetery is one of the oldest family cemeteries in Louisa County with the first burial made in 1840.
