AN ASSET OF WAPELLO IS LIVESTOCK AUCTION
Opened by Hanft In 1947

In 1947 Wapello gained a valuable addition to its businesses when Rex Hanft, formerly of Columbus Junction, opened the Wapello Livestock Auction on highway 61, using part of the Baxter Canning Co. as his original building. Since then many improvements, additions and remaking it have been effected, making it one of the outstanding auctions in the area. His lunch room was added in 1950 and the seating capacity greatly enlarged in 1955.

Hanft is a 5 year veteran of WW II. His wife is also a veteran with the Women’s Army Corps. They have one son, Dick.

Employees are Tom Pogemiller, who has been with Hanft since 1950, and O. P. Biggerstaff.
