Transcribed by Shirley Plumb, June 30, 2019VERN BARBY, BARBER FOR 30 YEARS Vern Darby has been serving the community as a barber for the past thirty years and is still going strong. Vern came to Wapello in 1926 and worked in Don’s Barber Shop for several years and then decided on a change.
So he went to Oakville for a while and then to Burlington, still following his chosen profession.
However, in 1946, he had the opportunity of getting a place of his own here in Wapello on Van Buren street and ever since that time he has been in the same location, Darby’s Barber Shop.
Mrs. Darby is the former Vera Jarvis of Wapello. She is employed at Patrick’s Homecrest Store. The couple reside at 411 South Second street and they have one son, Kenneth, who is attending the State University of Iowa and upon finishing there in January, 1957, he will enter the law school and complete his studies as an attorney.
