TILLMANN MOTORS SINCE 1932
LeRoy Tillmann Now Active Manager
Tillman Motor Co., Wapello’s Ford and Mercury dealer, has served this area for almost 25 years.
In 1932 Mr. and Mrs. Herb Tillmann purchased the agency from Ilo Hinton and Loren Nalean. Though outstanding service they withstood the depression years, and then weathered WW II with all its problems.
For some years they operated the Ford tractor, Wood Bros. implement dealership, but sold it to J. Loyd Wilson in 1946.
LeRoy Tillmann, eldest son, took active management of the agency in recent years, after returning from overseas duty during the war.
The Herb Tillmann have two children, twins, Richard and Robert. Robert married Mary Lou Hamman of Burlington.
Roy married Vivian Sillick of Wapello. They have one daughter.
Mrs. Herb Tillmann is the former Minnie Meyerholtz of Wapello.
Their first employees, Mrs. Tillman recalls, were Robert Lewis, now county sheriff, and Pahl Meyerholz, in addition to the Tillmans.
Present employees are: Dean Downs, salesman; Carl Salladay, Lee Harris, Robert Harrison, Tom Schwob, Jr., and Wilbur Hinds. Hinds has been with them since 1933, with the exception of four years during WW II.
