CORNER GROCERY IS PARTNERSHIP
Brown – Matthews Operators

Two Wapello boys are making good, Don Brown and Burt Matthews, owners of the Corner Grocery. And no matter how busy they are, they always make it a point to greet each customer with a smile, which means so much to all of us.

Burt served three years in the army—Pacific duty and previous to that time he served as city of Wapello water commissioner. He married Marjorie Wilson and they have two children.

Don served three and half years with the navy as an air corp pilot---also Pacific duty. Previous to that time he was a salesman for Pine Motor Co. He married Janice Bloomer and they have two children.

The Corner Grocery started in business in July of 1952 where The Smart Shop is located now. The fine line of meats, groceries, fresh fruits and vegetables and the friendly service, paid off to the extent that in 1955 they bought out the Bentico store, directly across the street from their original location, where they are today.
