About Connie Alexander Dobert Street Connie Street grew up in Van Buren County, Iowa, and later lived in Minneapolis, Minn.; Long Island, N.Y.; Lee County, Iowa; and most recently Louisa County, Iowa.She has been involved in genealogical research in Iowa, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Breconshire, Wales, for nearly 40 years. A charter member of the Old Fort Genealogical Society and the Fort Madison Friends of the Library, she has held offices in a number of genealogical and historical societies in southeast Iowa. She was a member of the Hacker’s Creek Pioneer Descendants and a charter member of the Mining Your History Foundation, both in West Virginia. The Iowa Genealogical Society elected her to six terms on the executive council including two terms as president. She has presented family history programs in several states. She received the Governor's Volunteer Award in 1990 and volunteer recognition from the State Historical Society of Iowa in 1990, 1992 and 1993. She also received, as a newspaper reporter, a Commander’s Award for Public Service from the U.S. Department of the Army after spending two weeks in Jutiapa, Guatemala, with Joint Task Force Timberwolf in 1995. Retired from a daily newspaper, most recently she has been been writing weekly stories about area veterans for a weekly newspaper and is posting military information from newspapers from the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and 1960s online. She serves as chairman of the Louisa County Historic Preservation Commission, is the Museum Manager at the Louisa County Heritage Center in Wapello, Iowa, and County Coordinator of the IAGenWeb for Louisa and Cedar counties. She also maintains a Website for the State Association for the Preservation of Iowa Cemeteries (SAPIC), as well as a Website about her own family history. She has also served as county coordinator for Winneshiek, Iowa, Cedar and Poweshiek counties.
