This batch of photos was submitted by Esther J. Connell, who asks, "Attached are photos of people who are supposed to have lived in Linn County during the last half of the 1800's. Can someone help with identification?" Possible clues may be found in her family information:

Solomon Miller  born Jan. 29, 1835 in Ohio, died Jan. 7, 1892 at Center Point and his wife Mary Ann Theuer Miller born Feb. 11, 1831 in Germany and died ca. 1876 in Marion Co., Ohio.  They had at least one child:  Henry Washington Miller born June 24, 1860 in Ill/Ohio and he was a brick maker and he died July 7, 1937 in Dickinson Co, Iowa.  He was married Nov. 10, 1887 in Center Point to Mary Ellen Robbins and she was born Feb. 18, 1866 in Center Point and died June 25, 1946 in Dickinson County, IA..

Then we also have James Wallace Robbins, a shoemaker, born March 20, 1825 in PA and died March 20, 1889 in Center Point.  He was married May 25, 1856 in Jackson Co., IA. to Leusetta/Lucetta E. Doss.  She was born Feb. 12/22, 1838 in IN and died May 3/13, 1887 in Center Point.

James' parents were:  John Robbins, a farmer and a shoemaker who had retired by 1878, born Dec. 19, 1800 in Mercer Co., PA and died in Center Point IA on Sept. 25, 1884.  He was married in 1827 to Elizabeth Bronson, born March 5, 1896 in PA and died Dec. 22, 1874 in Center Point.

Lucetta's parents were Greenberry Doss who came to Iowa about 1844, was in Lynn Co., by 1850.  He was born ca. 1812 in KY and married Nov. 14, 1835 in IN where they lived until about 1840; to Elizabeth Mikels and she was born ca. 1811 in Ireland.  I have nothing further on her.

Hopefully someone will have similar pictures or will know who some of them are. If you can help with any of these photos, E-mail Esther at: econnell@ncn.net.  (Click on each one to see larger image)

This is a picture of what looks like a minor league ball player. The time frame  is probably somewhere in the late 20's or in the 30's, and his last name may be Bione.  The picture was taken by Hardendorf who was located on 220 Third Ave in Cedar Rapids. There is nothing written on the back.  Can anyone identify the fellow or the team for which he played?

I've "rescued" an old photograph of MARY FILLMORE taken at the Elliott Studio in Marion, Iowa.  The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's or 1880's with Mary appearing to be in her 30's or 40's at the time. It appears that the photograph was probably a gift to her brother because in addition to her name on the back of the photograph someone has written "To Brother".  I'm hoping to find someone from Mary's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family.  If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley  familia@sprintmail.com
