LEECH/LEACH, McCAIG/McCAUG, HOUSEL
Melise Leech: LEECH/LEACH,HOUSEL,McCAIG/McCAUG--It always seems to follow that the line that one should know the most about is the one that can't be traced. Does anyone know anything about any of these folks? They came to Lee County, Iowa from Pennsylvania or Virginia and remained for at least one generation before migrating to Nebraska and Kansas. James B. LEECH/LEACH was b abt. 1784 and married Jane McCAUG/McCAUG (b abt. 1790) around 1809. James and Jane had the following children: Mary Jane b. 16 Nov 1811, John Milton b. 22 Sep 1815, Lemuel b. 5 Apr 1817, Albert Gallitan b. 18 Apr 1819, William Wilson b. 11 May 1821, Margaret Ellen b. 20 Mar 1823, Alexander Stuart b. 28 Jul 1825 d. 10 Oct 1902, James Bayard b. 27 Apr 18827, Elizabeth b. 10 Feb 1830, Samuel b. 5 Nov 1832, Robert McCaig?McCaug b. 24 Apr 1834, Lott Irvin b. 1836. It is possible that most, or perhaps all of these children were born in PA, but the family appears to have then moved enmasse to Lee County. The 7th child, Alexander Stuart LEECH/LEACH, married Jerusha Jane Housel on 5 Jun 1858 in Fort Madison, Lee Co, IA. Jerusha Jane was born 30 Sept 1839 in Centre Co., PA. The last two were born in Syracuse, NE: Albert D., b. 18 Mar 1859 d. 11 Jun 1905, m. Donah C. Albaugh, Seth b. 9 Feb 1861 d. 24 Apr 1946, m. With exception of the marriage date of Alexander and Jerusha Jane, all of this information comes from family records. I have not been able to locate any of these folks in any other "official" document. I would very much like to hear from anyone who knows (or even thinks they know) anything about ANY of these mystery people! Thank you for your assistance!Mary Celine Scott: Inn search of information concerning the McDaniel family of Hillsboro, Lee County, Iowa. Richard L. I have tried the county/state death record route. No records in Iowa, MO, or IL, but he had to have died in one of those states. Be happy to share what I have on Collins family. Does anyone know/recognize this John?Bill Hawkins: In a letter dated 14 October 1844 in Lee County, Iowa, my Great-Great-Grandfather, John Criswell writes about 'the fever' with which nearly everyone is sick and with which many are dying -- including his wife Rebecca on 29th of July 1844 and later in 1844 a daughter Elce Criswell Wilson. Nearly everyone in his family had come down with 'the fever'. Can anyone tell me what illness this was and how extensive it was in Lee County?
