Clarence Runyan JORDAN was born 14 January 1855 near the town of Chula, Missouri and died 31 December 1925. Grew up in Chula, married 18 December 1888 to Miss Onie WARD and had three sons; Richard of Peoria, Illinois, Morvia of Galesburg, Illinois, and Walter of Montrose, all of who survive with the wife. Has a half brother, Joseph JORDON of Chula, Missouri. He moved to Ft. Madison in 1897 and then to Montrose in 1900. Buried Montrose.
Mrs. Emmaline WARDLOW, formerly of this place, but for a number of years a resident of Kewannee, Illinois, died 30 December 1925 at the age of seventy-seven. She lived in Montrose until the death of her husband, Nat WARDLOW, when she went to live with her daughter in Kewanee. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Emma MILHOUSE of Kewanee and Mrs. Joseph CARR of Montrose.

Miss Mildred MITCHELL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.C. MITCHELL, died last Friday. Funeral took place in the Catholic church in Ft. Madison with burial at that place. Did not say how old she was or when she was born, just that it was the flower just blooming into womanhood. Survived by parents and one brother, Eustice of Montrose.
Mrs. Belle MCINTIRE SKINNER died Tuesday at the home of Dr. and Mrs. E.M. BUCK at Montrose where she had lived for about ten years. Belle MCINTIRE was born at Smithville,Pa., 20 April 1864, the daughter of John MCINTIRE of Lavila TURNEY MCINTIRE For the past twenty years, she had lived in Montrose. Leaves two sisters; Mrs. Susan SMITH of Kahoka, Missouri, and Mrs. J. ALLISON of Macomb, Illinois, two brothers; George and John MCINTIRE, both of Industry, Illinois. Buried Montrose.
Mrs. Joseph CLOUD and sister, Mrs. Emma MILLHOUSE, were called to Kewanee, Illinois, by the sickness and death of their mother, Mrs. Emmaline WARDLOW.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred CARR of Ambrosia, Iowa, entertained Saturday in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Adsin METZ, of Argyle, who had gotten married on Wednesday.
Mrs. M .R. WELSH died at her home near Montrose, Iowa, Tuesday. She was 71. Agusta GEHIN was born near Paris France, 4 May 1854 the daughter of John and Emily GEHIN, but came to U.S. with her parents when six months old and has made her home in Keokuk practically all her life. On 16 August 1891, she married Michael M. WELSH at Warsaw, Illinois and had eight children, one daughter died at the age of 17 months. Funeral was held at St, Peters church.
Mary Madaline, daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. Len A. BREWER, was born 3 January 1926, and at the age of 13 days, passed away. Leaves parents, children, Alice, Minnie and ? Alvin, Earl, Esther, and John. Buried Sugar Creek cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Irvin LAMB have a new daughter, born 22 January 1926; Lois May.
George BENNER’S car went through the ice, all got out before the car went under. He had been across the river visiting relatives. ( I remember someone else’s car going through the ice when I was in high school, I believe it was C.E. ADAMS)
Miss Sara VANAUSDALL married Roy REED, 27 January 1926, will live in Ft. Madison.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell HANCOCK and children, Lois and Donald, attended the wedding of VANAUSDALL and REED at Belmont. Mrs. HANCOCK and Miss VANAUSDALL are sisters.
Miss Eliza LINN died at her home 29 January 1926. She was born at Rome N.Y. in 1855 and came to Keokuk with her parents when she was two. In 1865, the family moved to Montrose. Her parents, three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. She leaves one sister, Miss Fannie LINN, who lived with her, several nieces and nephews, none of whom reside in this vicinity. Buried Montrose.

Mrs. Jim CALE who has been an invalid at Montebella, Ca. for a long time, died last Sunday Her body is being brought home for burial.
Frank REED who was brought up in Montrose, married Miss Clara GROTHOUSE of Ft. Madison . Will live in Ft.Madison.
Mr. and Mrs. Bishop LATTA have a new girl, Catherine Louise, 4 February 1926.
Mrs. W.H.GRISWOLD died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Henry CALE at Bricker, 5 February 1926. She was born 9 December 1882. She married W.H. GRISWOLD of Jefferson Twp. 10 October 1904 and had three children, the oldest died in infancy, Charlotte 16 in Ft. Madison high school, and James Don 13, at home, Survived by husband, children, mother, four sisters; Miss Ora CALE at home, Mrs. B.F. SIMNELY of Prince Albert Saskatcheman, Canada, Mrs. W.E. PIERCE, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Miss Daisy CALE at New Mexico, one brother, Melvin CALE at home. Funeral was held at the home of her mother burial in Oakland cemetery at Ft. Madison.

Nellie BROWN was born 18 Oct. 1868, near Montrose, Iowa. She married James CALE in April of 1889. Her home was on a farm near Montrose until 1919, when the family came to Montebello. She died 14 February 1926. The body will be taken via Santa Fe, leaving Los Angeles 18 February for burial in the old home cemetery at Montrose. Survived by her husband, two sons, Laurence of Long Beach, John of Los Angeles, one daughter, Mrs. Marion CANNON. Two children preceded her. Three sisters also survive; Mrs. Mary E. CADWELL of Oakly, Cva. Mrs. Frank GOOSE of Mt. Hamil, Iowa, Mrs. Susie B. CAMPBELL of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, one brother, James T. BROWN of Ft. Morgan, Co.

Mrs. Belle CURTIS was called to Keokuk Saturday owing to a stroke suffered by Mrs. Nancy WILSON, the mother-in-law of Mrs. Annie WILSON, an aunt of Mrs. CURTIS. The lady never regained consciousness and passed away at the hospital. Buried Laraine, Ill. ?

Rachel Charlotte MORRISON, daughter of Alexander? And Mary Harron MORRISON was born in Freemont, Co. Ohio?, 22 January 1848 and died 2 March 1926. Came with her parents to Iowa in February 1865, married to Henry CALE 15 March 1874 and had six daughters, and one son. Her husband and two daughters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Amanda Colvin BOYD was born 16 Nov. 1852 in Ky. Came with her parents to Iowa when a child. In October 1870, she married John G. BOYD, who preceded her 12 years ago. She died at the home overlooking the valley and river 6 March 1926. Leaves sisters; Mrs. R.R. GRIMES, and Mrs. Sadie DAVIS, one brother, Green COLVIN. Buried Montrose.

Morgan BARNES, son of Wm. and Rebekah BARNES was born 20 December 1849 near Wheeling W.V. He died 8 March 1926 at his home. He married Margaret J. SPAHR 11 May 1871, who survives, also seven children; Emma, Kate, and Hugh at home, Charles E. and Frank E. of St. Louis, Missouri, James and Harry of Charleston, one brother Wilbert BARNES of Pueblo, Co. one sister Mrs. Emma COURTRIGHT of Canada. Buried Charleston.

Mrs. Belle Marsh FRANKLIN died at the home of her brother-in-law, Herman GROTH, Saturday. Belle MARSH was born in Washington Twp., the daughter of Muford and Melinda MARSH. On 14 August 1901, she married John FRANLKLIN and lived near Wever. A year later they moved to a farm near Montrose, living there 14 years. The last eight years, they have lived at Wyaconda, Missouri. Leaves husband, Mary Martin, city, and Resta MARSH, Wever, cousins. Burial made in city cemetery.

John Robert WARDLOW, died at St. Joseph’s hospital in Keokuk, after being taken there from his home in Montrose. He was born 20 February 1857 at Lancaster, Missouri, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter WARDLOW. In 1861, he married Sylvia SCHREPP of Kansas and had two children, one of whom has preceded his father in death. Mrs. Sylvia WARDLOW, died in 1888? He married again 16 January 1913 to Mrs. Laura UPP GREEN of Blaksburg, Iowa. In February 1915, Mr. and Mrs. WARDLOW came to Lee Co. and settled on a farm near Montrose. He is survived by wife, one daughter Mrs. ? Alta Canada; four brothers, Newton, and Dow WARDLOW of Ponca, Oklahoma, D.C.WARDLOW of Warsaw, Illinois, and Jeff WARDLOW of Greencourt, Alta, Canada, one sister, Mrs. Frank NEWMAN of Davenport, Oklahoma. Buried Montrose.
George W. ALVIS, was born in Lee Co. Iowa, 4 February 1860 and died 17 April 1926. He was the son of Henry J. and Eilcia A. ALVIS. Four brothers and one sister preceded him. He is survived by one brother, W. S. ALVIS and a number of nieces and nephews. Buried Meek.

Charity BROWN was born in Fallsburg, N.Y., 7 March 1837 and died at her home in Montrose 30 April 1926 (something wrong with date) When she was five, she moved with her family to Centerville, N.Y. She married Isaac V. CRAWFORD of Glenwild, N.Y., 13 September 1859 and had ten children, two sons and eight daughters. Her husband and two daughters preceded her, Fannie and Hannah. Surviving; George W. of Oklahoma, and Jason V. of Kansas City, and six daughters; Mrs. Emma KNIGHT of Montrose, Mrs. Cora BEDDOW of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Etta COLLINS and Mrs. Lyle GRANT of Montrose, Mrs. Mary FIFER of Burlington, and Mrs. Sara WILGON of Salem, Iowa. Buried Montrose.

John W. FARRELL was born in Ambrosia, on what is known as the Jos. CARR farm, 9 January 1851. He had been a life time resident of Lee Co. except for four years spent in Quincy. In 1891, he married Mrs. Minerva MOSIER at Quincy. Shortly after they moved to a farm near Montrose. Mrs. FARRELL’S death occurred in 1906. They had four children; Lester of near Ft Madison, Mrs. Margaret CLEMENSON and Thomas of near Montrose, Ernest, who is a student in the State University in Iowa City and John Jr. who died in infancy. In 1911, he again married to Mrs. Sarah MCBRIDE of Montrose. She met a tragic death shortly after their marriage, having been trampled to death by horses, killing her instantly. The other surviving are two grandchildren: Evelyn and Mary FARRELL of Ft. Madison and a brother James FARRELL of Denver, Co. Funeral at St. Peters, burial in Cath. Cemetery.
John Hagard SLINGERLAND was born 23 March 1839 on a farm not far from the home in which he passed away, at the age of 87. He married Miss Julia DUMENILION? 21 September 1862, who survives, with two children; Wm. CARSON of Pine Bluff, Wy. And Mrs. Neva MAY, who lives at home. One son, John Larmar, died in 1878. He was a member of the 30th Iowa Infantry, enlisting in 1862 and served during the entire war. At the time of death, he was the oldest living white man born in Lee Co. One sister, Mrs. John REYNOLDS of Mt.Pleasant, Ut. Died 25 April 1916 and another sister, Mrs. Margaret BRAYTON, died 6 May 1925. A brother, Alex, died in the 80’s. Mr. SLINGERLAND marks the final passing away of the original SLINGERLANDS of Lee Co. Buried Charleston cemetery.
Miss Esther E. FRUEHLING married Paul WESDIKE of Chicago, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G.S.GLASER, relatives of the groom, in Chicago.

Michael WELSH died at his home near Montrose, 12 May 1926, his wife died in January 1928(can’t be), checked back, she died in January 1926. He was born Michael Richard WELSH in Hamilton, Illinois, 16 August 1865. Had a grocery store in Keokuk for over 30 years. Since 1914, he had been farming near Montrose. On 1 August 1893, he married Gustia GEHIN at Warsaw, Illinois and had eight children, one daughter, Theresa, died when she was eight months old. Surviving are; Mrs. C.J. BURK, of Ft. Madison, Mrs. J.T.WYCOFF of Richmond, Virginia, Martin of Davenport, Joseph, Thomas, Donald, and Margaret all living at the family home near Montrose, one sister, Mrs. Anna WELSH of Keokuk, one step-sister, Mrs. Ellen MCKINZIE, of St.Louis, Monsignor J. BRITT, of Brooklyn, N.Y. and John O’DONARD, Cardinal of Tiperary, Ireland, are cousins of Mr. WELSH who also survive. Five grandchildren, Evelyn, Ruth, and John WYCOFF, of Richmond, Virginia, and Ross and Jack BURK, of Ft. Madison. Funeral was at St. Peter’s catholic church.
Miss Minnie SEABOLD married Ralph PHILIP, 12 May 1926, at St.Paul’s parsonage. Bride is the daughter of Mrs. Christine SEABOLD of Keokuk and groom is son of Mr. Allen PHILIP, fromerly of Montrose Twp.
Helen LEFFLER died 4 May 1926 in Topeka, where she had been under doctor’s care. She was born 18 May 1885 at Maryville, Missouri, the second child of Charles and Adelaide LEFFLER. She taught at Maryville and St.Joseph, Missouri. Since 1910, she had been making her home with her mother at Lyndon. Leaves, mother, three brothers; Shepherd of Kansas City, Paul and Leland of Lyndon.

Mrs. Lawrence DENMIRE, of Fair View farm died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank P. VENNING, last Thurs. She was the daughter of Mary Jane MILLER BURT and Benjamin E. BURT and was born in Primrose, Iowa, 1 October 1865. In her early life, her family moved to Keokuk, then to Sandusky. Here she met and married Lawrence F. DENMIRE, 24 October 1888 and had six children, two of whom preceded their mother in death, Dorothy, at the age of 13, and Frederick at 18 months. After the marriage, they moved to the farm, where they have lived since. Survived by mother, of Tacoma, Washington, her husband, four children, Mrs. F.Lee DAVIS of Montrose, Mrs. F.J. VENNING of Keokuk, Burt of Minneapolis and Lawrence Jr. a student at Ames, Iowa collete. Buried Sandusky cemetery. ( I remember Lawrence Jr. very well. His daughter, Marcine, and I used to ride horses together. He built kites. At that time they lived on the middle rode. Sara Lee RUBY also rode with us.
Mrs. James CASEY NEE MCBRIDE, born in Jefferson Twp., 8 March 1863. She had eleven brothers and sisters, all of whom have died but two sisters and one brother. She married James CASEY of ? in 1890 and lived there in Adrian three years and after the death of her husband returned to her home in Jefferson Twp. where she lived till her death. She began teaching at age 17, continuously since except the three years of her married life. Leaves daughter Miss Mary CASEY. Services at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Ft. Madison. (I think the NEE means born.

Arnold BEARD, a highly esteemed citizen of our town, died at his home 1 June 1926. He was born 25 May 1868, the son of William and Mary BRISTOW BEARD, on a farm near Big Mound, Lee County, Iowa. Went to Bonaparte to live, where he met and married Miss Clare TROUTMAN 29 October 1902 and had one son, Winton. They moved to Montrose in 1912, where he constructed the Journal home bank and Masonic building and his own home. Survived by wife, son, four sisters; Mrs. Mary GREEN, Donnellson, Mrs. Anna DICK of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Rose STEVENSON of Ottumwa and Mrs. Elizabeth HILLMAN of Oregon, three brothers; Charley of Ft. Madison, Fremont of Memphis, Missouri, and Thomas of Bonaparte. Buried Montrose.

Mrs. Emma MAXFIELD CURTIS wife of William CURTIS, died at the family home near Montrose, Saturday. Daughter of John and Mary MAXFIELD and was born in Ohio, 4 March 1859. Married Wm.CURTIS, 25 December 1883 at the home of her parents in Montrose and had two children, William, who died at the age of six and Ralph, who lives near Montrose. She has one grandson, Glen CURTIS. Also leaves one sister, Mrs. Jessie CURTIS, of Montrose, three brothers, Reeder, Albert, and George. Husband also survives. Buried Montrose.

Benjamin F. WHORTON, died at his home in Jefferson Twp., Friday. He was born 28 January 1845 in Ohio and when a child, came and stayed. Enlisted in the regular army in 1857 and served three years. Two sons and three daughters survive him. Buried Oakland cemetery in Ft.Madison.
John COOK died 12 June 1926 at his home in Ft. Madison. He was born 15 May 1862 in St. Louis, Missouri. When he was quite young, his parents moved to Montrose where he grew to manhood. He served as a guard at the penitentiary in Ft. Madison. Survived by one brother, Wm.COOK and one sister, Mrs. Emma WEIMER, both of Ft .Madison. Buried Elmwood cemetery at Ft. Madison.

Miss Hazel FRUEHLING, daughter of Mrs. C.F. FRUEHLING, married Herschel ROMINGER, son of Mr. and Mrs. John ROMINGER of Bloomfield, Iowa, at the home of her mother last night. She has taught school near Montrose. Will live on farm near Bloomfield.

The little son of Mr. and Mrs. Elza MARSHALL, of Sandusky, died at the home of his uncle, Roy REED in Ft .Madison. Wallace Everett MARSHALL was born 22 May 1922 at Montrose. Survived by; grandparents; Mr. and Mrs.Jesse REED of Montrose, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest MUNFORD of Farmington. Funeral held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse REED.

Miss Helen HOPP, daughter of Mr and Mrs. John HOPP, of Montrose, married Leo A. OCHSNER, son of Mr. Louis OCHSNER of Nauvoo, Illinois on 14 July 1926. Will live on a farm near Nauvoo.
It is said that 35 years ago, George HERRICK will marry Nora LAMBERT on August 2.

Miss Dorothy MCLEARN, 16 year old daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Thomas MCLEARN of Ottumwa was instantly killed when she stepped off the street car in front of an automobile. Her brothers, Ed and Fred of this city, left for Ottumwa.
Mrs. G.W. KENNEDY, one of the most prominent women of this town, died at St. Josephs hospital in Keokuk last Saturday. Dorcas CARNES, daughter of Dr. H. and Susan M. CARNES was born in Conway, Iowa, 21 June 1885. When a child she accompanied her parents to Iowa City for a number of years, then to Warsaw, where she graduated high school. They went to Denver, finally they returned to Montrose and was elected assistant principal of the Montrose High School for one year. On 24 October 1906, she married George W. KENNEDY and had two children. Leaves husband, one daughter, Adele, now a Sr. at the University, one son, George W. Jr. at home, one sister, Mrs. Esther ADAMS, one brother, Kenneth CARNES, and an aunt, Mrs. Lula REEVES. Her parents preceded her. Buried Montrose.
Mrs. Madaline WORDEN COWEN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.V.WORDEN, formerly of Montrose, died recently. She was born in Topeka, Kansas, 12 September 1901. She married 17 June 1926 and was taken seriously ill the following day. She lived ten days.

Paul LEFFLER, one of the most liked young men of this community, was instantly killed under a Missouri Pacific train, just East of the Section house at N. Lyndon, 13 July 1927(can’t be)
He was born in Maryville, Missouri, 13 December 1889, the third child of Charles and Adelaide LEFFLER. Survived by mother, two brothers, Shepherd and Leland, aged grandmother, Mrs. Jennie REEVES. Buried Lyndon cemetery.

Little Leroy FOWLER, died at the home of his parents in Jefferson Twp., 14 August 1926. Leroy Clingman FOWLER, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl FOWLER, was born 24 June 1923. Survived by his parents, two brothers, Leland and Vincent, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. CLINGMAN and Mr. and Mrs. John FOWLER. Funeral was held at his grandparents, CLINGMANS. Buried Montrose cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. C. BOTHE, nee, Blanch BEGGS, a daughter , Nancy Jeanne.
Lane LITTLE of Davenport, swam the river Sunday. Took 44 minutes. Harry Scott, life guard at Linglonger accompanied the swimmer and states that at no time was the swimmer in danger of defeat.
Mrs. Isadora LAWSON, wife of the late Louis died Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jemmie ANDREWS near Argyle. She was born in Rock Creek Twp. in Illinois, 4 September 1848. For forty years she had been a resident of Iowa having lived at Clarinda, Charleston, and Montrose. She was the daughter of John and Ann ALSTON. She married Louis C. LAWSON, 8 January 1865. Husband, and three children, John, Lucy, and Mrs. Elizabeth ALLEN preceded her in death. Survived by; five daughters and four sons, 27 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Buried Charleston cemetery.

Mrs. Blanch A. YOUNKIN, almost a lifelong resident of Lee Co., died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. U. WARDLOW at Montrose. She was 83. It looks like she may have been born in Ohio. Mrs. Cynthia GREER MCCLINTHEN of Montrose, died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Paul SCHMITHER of Ft.Madison. Buried Sacred Cemetery. She was born 5 December 1843 in Illinois, has been a resident of Lee Co. for 45 years. Leaves one daughter, Mrs. Lena SCHMITHER of this city, one son Paul MOON of Warrensburg, Missouri.

Melvina V. NEWHOUSE, 89, who lived to see her country victorious in four wars, died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Ed. HENDRICKS, Ft.Madison. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah NEWHOUSE, born at Pleasant Grove in Des Moines Co. Survived by three nieces, Mrs. E.I. HENDRICKS, Lorance NEWHOUSE, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Lorena WIDDOWS of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, three nephews; Charles NEWHOUSE, and William WILSON of Montrose and Lawrence NEWHOUSE of Cuba.

Mr. James Porter KERAN, died at his home near Independence, Iowa, 15 September 1926. He was born in Jefferson Twp. in Oct. of 1871, the son of Mr and Mrs. James KERAN. He married Miss Mary Charlotte CALE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George CALE of Jefferson Twp., 4 March 190? And had six children, three of which preceded him, Minnie, at age 3, and two infant sons. Leaves wife, Arthur, 21, Edith, 10, and John 6. His step-mother, Mrs. James KERAN of Ft.Madison, three sisters, Mrs. Clara BANFORD of Canada, Mrs. Minnie VANDER_LINDEN, Prairie City, Iowa, Mrs. Mary ALLEN of Ft.Madison, one step-sister, Mrs. Mattie DELAP of Ft Madison, three brother; John, Fred, and Lee KERAN of Nebraska City. Buried Wilson cemetery in Ft.Madison.

There passed away here on Saturday morning, 19 July 1926, one of the most beloved residents of this community, in the person of William Reid. He was born, 22 March 1850. He married Mary Ellen BROWN of Ivy, in 1877. She preceded him in 1896. They had Wightman, Mary, Jane, John Wilford and Hugh Burton. Mary Jane died 12 June 1897, Wightman, died 7 November 1905. John lives in Wainwright, Alberta and Hugh Burton in Iowa. On 6 July 1898, he married Caroline BECKERTON. They had one son Earl, who resides at the present home in Ivy. He is survived by wife and the three sons, John, Burt, and Earl. Buried in the Presbyterian cemetery. He had been central operator for the Ivy-Thornton Telephone Co.
Mrs. J.M. REED who was a lifelong resident of this vicinity, died last Thursday. She was born 2 August 1873 and died after an illness of seven years. Miss Anna SPEAKS was married to Mr. J.M. REED 11 June 1891 and had four children, one of which preceded her. Leaves husband, three daughters, Mrs. George GROVE of Chicago, Mrs. William RENWALD of Omaha, Ne. and Mrs. C.H. PENCE of Oakland, Ca. one sister, Mrs. William WORTHINGTON of Lincoln, Ne. four grandchildren, Victor DUNBAR of Montrose, Theresa and Genevieve DUNBAR of Chicago and baby Ruth RENWALD of Omaha, Ne. Buried Montrose.
Mrs. H.L. SNIDER, a life long resident of Lee Co., died 30 September 1926, at the home of her grand-daughter, Mrs. Maurice WAHRER of Charleston, Iowa. She was 85. She was born 4 November 1840 in Ripley Co. In. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.M. HAMILTON. Came to Iowa when 8, with her parents to this county. She married Jacob SNIDER 22 February 1857 and had three children, only one is living. Her husband died thirty years ago. For the past three years she has made her home at Charleston with Mr. and Mrs. Maurice WAHRER. Mr. Albert SNIDER of Chicago is her only surviving child, nine grandchildren, and a number of great grandchildren. Buried New Boston cemetery.
Mrs. Jeannette DUGGAN died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.F. PHILIPS. She was born in Clark Co. Missouri, 7 October 1858, and came to Iowa when she was five. Survived by husband, Wm., who is living in New Boston, three daughters; Mrs. H.F. PHILIPS of Keokuk, Mrs. A.E. FOWLER of Vincennes, and Mrs. Albert GEORGE of Keokuk, one son Lewis Duggan, died 3 September 1912.

Wash DAVIS died 18 October 1926 at age 86. He was an old soldier and had lived in Montrose many years.
Mrs. Margaret BISHOP died and was buried from the family home in Keokuk, Monday. She was resident of Montrose for a number of years. She leaves two children, Mrs. Cora ESSEG and Oscar BISHOP of Keokuk, and two brothers, Joseph and William CLOUD of Montrose.

Washington J. DAVIS was born in Van Buren Co. Iowa, 11 October 1847 and died 13 October 1926 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Minnie THOMPSON of Joplin, Missouri. He came to Montrose with his parents at the age of five, having lived here all his life until 15 months ago. After his wife died he had made his home with his daughter at Joplin. On 6 May 1872, he married to Amazonia OMEN at Burlington, Iowa. He is survived by ten children; George, Keokuk, Weaver, Keokuk, Frank and Preston of Montrose, Melvin of St .Louis, Ralph of Canyon City, Co., Mrs. Clara B. ROSS, Tx. Mrs. Mary MARVIN, Joplin, Mrs. Minnie THOMPSON, Joplin, Mrs. Madeline STROUP, Altamont, Kansas, a sister, Mrs. Eva KING of Spokane, Washington, 28 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. He was a civil war veteran having served in Co. B. 50th Ill. He was Commander of Tip Best Post of Montrose. Military services were conducted. Buried Montrose.

Cyrus DOWNING, son of Annie E. and Robert LAMBERT, was born at Harrodsburg, Mercer Co. Ky. 1 December 1852, came with his parents to Iowa in 1854. He married Armena NICHOLSON in 1875. He lived in Lee Co., until 1894 when he moved to Van Buren Co., where he lived until 1910, at which time he moved to Oklahoma, living there until his death 12 October 1926. Leaves wife, Mrs. Armena, five sons, Howard of Tucson, Az.,Robert of Olathe, Kansas, Herbert of Des Moines, Iowa., Alfred of Ca. Grover of Delfin, Ok., Mrs. Annie CROUSDALE of Delfin, also one brother Andy of Pretty Prairie, Kansas, two sisters, Mrs. Clarence RITZ of Ogden, Ut., Mrs. Clarence ADAMS of Montrose. Didn’t say where buried, just that the RITZ’S returned to Az. After an extended visit in Montrose.
Miss Mary BALL, a descendent of Geo. Washington, died at her home at New Boston, Iowa today. She was the daughter of Wm. and Maria Jordon BALL, born in New Boston, 29 October 1855. Her entire life was spent in Lee Co. Survived by sister; Mrs. W.J. HAMILTON; two nieces; Mrs. F. GKASBEKK(I don’t think this is spelled right) of Davenport, Mrs. F. WALKER of Keokuk, and one nephew, W. HAMILTON, of LaBell. One brother and two sisters preceded her. Buried New Boston.
