01 January 1920Miss Mabel NELSON, older daughter of Mr. and Mrs. NELSON, was married at the Andrew NELSON home in Revere, Missouri 27 December to James D. LYONS, of Valdeze, Alaska. Will live in Alaska.
James Finley JOHNSON was born in Cadiz, Oh. 28 September 1837 and died in New London Iowa, 20 December 1918 ( think they must mean 1919). He was the son of Samuel and Rachel JOHNSON. He came to Montrose 10 October 1849, landing from the Rev? Cutter Zachary TAYLOR and from that time until a few years ago, when he went to Des Moines and Omaha, to be with his daughter, he has made Montrose his home. Married in 1886. Leaves one daughter, Miss Anna M. JOHNSON, one brother, Adolphus JOHNSON of Marshalltown, Iowa. His wife and two sons preceded him, several years ago.
Amelia Ellen SNIVELY was born in Pike Co. Illinois 18 September 1848. She spent much of her early life in Evansville, In. where she married F.M. ROSS in September 1866, Soon after their marriage, they came to Montrose. She died 21 December 1918 at the home of Mrs. Kate REED. Mr. ROSS preceded her about four years ago. They had seven children, three died in infancy. Surviving children; Mrs. W.S. FARRAR, Lincoln, Ne., Mrs. Orian PITTS, Adrian, Illinois, Charles and Harvey ROSS, address unknown, two brothers, Joseph SNIVELY of Lamoni, Iowa, and H.N. SNIVELY of Burlington, Iowa. Also a number of grandchildren. Buried Montrose.
A little girl came to the home of Rev. and Mrs. Glen SCHILLERSTROM.

In the 15th of January, there was an obit that I could not make out. In todays there is a thank you from Mrs. Jane HAMILTON and Mrs. Mary BROWN for the death of their mother Mrs. Maria SCOTT. The only thing I could make out was burial in Charleston cemetery.
Mrs. Martha ARKWRIGHT Nee HARMON, died at her home in Council Bluffs the first of January. She was Grandma HARMONS oldest daughter. Two daughters, Emma and Blanche mourn the loss of their mother.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. SACKMAN celebrate 60th anniversary. Woman’s Civic Club gives special entertainment in honor of them. One of the pleasing incidents of the occasion was the presence of Mrs. Wm. Miss Ruth CALE, one of the bright young ladies of the prairie, died Tuesday. Buried Montrose. This morning, Ed CALE, the father, passed away and his wife is critically ill.

Miss Eunice NEWHOUSE was married to Albert MARSHALL? Will live in Montrose.
Frank D. HOLLINGSWORTH died at his home near Sandusky 4 February 1920. He was born 11 September 1854 in Keokuk. He had lived in Chicago, Hastings Ne. and Salem, Iowa,. He was unmarried and lived with his sister, Miss Addie HOLLINGSWORTH on the old HOLLINGSWORTH place. Buried Sandusky. Leaves three sisters; Miss PETTY, Mrs. STEVENSON, and Miss Addie, and one brother, Abram of Keokuk.
R.W. GRIGGS of Meade, Kansas has been in this vicinity looking up the whereabouts of the HAWKINS family who used to live here many years ago. One of the girls married Jack LAKIN.

Ruth Edna CALE was born in Jefferson Twp. 11 August 1901, died 3 February 1920 at her home near Montrose. At the time of her death she was survived by her parents, one brother, Sherman, one sister, Elizabeth. Two brothers preceded her.
Mrs. Rachel ANDERSON died Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry DRESSER have a son born 17 February.

Rachel LEE was born in Vineland N.J., 19 May 1837, the daughter of Josiah and Mary MOORE LEE. Her mother died when she was two, she was adopted into the home of a relative, J.W. VANSANT of LeClaire, Iowa. She married George ANDERSON of LeClaire 13 November 1855 and in 1861, the family moved to Montrose. Mr. LEE died 15 years ago. She had seven children, four dying in infancy. Surviving: Mrs. Mary SNIDER, Mrs. Sadie MOON, of Montrose, and Mrs. Anna SAWYER of Sandusky.

Walker CLEMENSEN, son of Fred CLEMENSEN and Miss Margaret Ellen FARRELL, daughter of John FARRELL, both of Montrose, were married in St. Peter’s Rectory, 10 March 1920.
Thomas BUCKNER died 9 March 1920 at his farm home three miles from Montrose. He was born in Lewis Co. Missouri in 1853. Came to Iowa with his parents, settling on a farm near Summitville in 1865. Married 14 November 1878 to Miss Mary E. OWENS of Keokuk. Leaves wife, two brothers and four sisters; Charles of New Boston, George, Keokuk, Mrs. CHESTERFIELD of Davenport, Mrs. GARLAND of Chicago, and Mesdames WOODARD and CRONSON both of Keokuk. Buried Oakland cemetery.
Garrette D. MILLHOUSE died 10 March at Montrose, Iowa. Born 20 October 1854, the son of David and Jemina MILLHOUSE. Two sisters, and two brothers preceded him. Surviving; two sisters, Mrs. John McCANN of Montrose, Mrs. Julia DOUGLAS of Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Mrs. Josephine Elizabeth COULTER BRADNEY was born at Montrose, Iowa 8 June 1861. She married Edward D. BRADNEY 5 September 1858 (something wrong). After spending a year in Illinois, they came to Cherokee County Kansas where they have since resided. Survived by husband, two sons, Claude and Clarence, and daughter , Frances BRADNEY, one Brother, George COULTER, of Clay Center, three sisters; Miss Hattie COULTER, Miss J.R. AMIDON and Mrs. J.MCCUMBER all of Montrose.

Mrs. E.? Casbourn WARD was born in England 11 April 1842 and died 1 April 1920. She left her home in England with her people and came to this country settling in the city of St .Louis. Here she married Thomas WARD 14 December 1858, who preceded her a number of years ago. Came to Montrose when young so this was home. Had five children, three have died, two survive; Mrs. Lily OWENS of Montrose, and Mrs. George LAWLER of Tacoma, Washington. Buried Montrose.

Miss. Eliza Ann COLPEPPER was born in McMinn Co. Tenn. 14 August 1829. She married W.J.ASH in 1849 and came to Illinois, where she lived until her death 3 April 1920. Mother of eight children, one of whom is Mrs. BINDEWALD of our city, and 35 grandchildren. Buried Warsaw.
Mr. and Mrs. Adolphus JOHNSON of Marshalltown, Iowa came to Keokuk to celebrate their 63rd anniversary at the home of their son, Lem.
Private V. SCHREANK of Hoboken N.J. brought the body of John ANDREWS home for burial last Sun.

It seems that every page that I need info from is unreadable. There is an obit on this page, it appears to be Mrs. Catherine ALLEN died at the home of her son. It looks like she was born in Oh.

Charles DERR and wife are parents of a girl, live in Charleston.
Christina MOSER, was born in Allentown, Pa. 18 September 1844. She married John JUDD in 1866. They came to Montrose, Iowa about 21 years ago. Had tow daughters and one son, the son having died at age 2. Leaves husband, two daughters, Elizabeth and Lillian. She died at her home in Montrose 2 May 1920.

Pride HOLT was born in Callaway County Missouri, came to this county when about 20, married Miss Mary J. CROWSON at Sandusky. Had 14 children, 11 with wife survive.
The body of Mrs. OFF’S son was found a few days ago down at Gregory, Missouri. He and Mr. AYRES had drowned some time back.
William RENZ and Miss Lenora ? were married Thursday at Kahoka, Missouri.

Charles Harvey CURTIS was born of Daniel and Emily CURTIS 24 December 1833 in the state of Oh., From there they moved to Flint Mi. They came to Iowa in 1856. He married Miss Mary IRVIN 13 December 1860, she died in November 1863. He then married Miss May A. RANKIN 5 March 1818 (can’t be but that is what it says). He died 27 May 1920. Leaves wife, one sister, Mrs. Lucretia YOUNKIN, eleven nephews, five nieces.
Marion W. FULTON was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1843 and died 2 June 1920. When a child he came with his parents to Fairfield, Iowa and later to Bentonsport, Iowa. In 1861, he enlisted in the 21st Missouri Infantry and served throughout the war. He married Miss Aver DODD of Ft. Madison in 1868. Leaves wife and one brother who lives in Florida and one sister of Moline, Illinois.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. AUWAERTER have a son William Jacob.

Mrs. Sarah LAMBERT NICHOLSON was born at Montrose Oct. 1859 and died in Cherryvale, Kansas 3 June 1920. She married Mr. NICHOLSON in 1885 and moved to Kansas. They had six children all of whom survive. Two sisters, Mrs. ADAMS of Montrose, Miss Lidia LAMBERT and Wesley LAMBERT who with his sister live at the old home place and J.A. LAMBERT of Pretty Prairie, Kansas and Cyrus. Buried Cherryvale.
John A.MAXFIELD was born 15 August 1863 in Montrose Twp. son of John and Mary MAXFIELD, died 6 June 1920. He married Miss Mary BULLARD in November 1897 and had one daughter, who with the wife survives. Moved to Warsaw in 1899. Buried Warsaw.

Harry Fred CALE was born in Montrose 17 March 1920 and died 13 June 1920. He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred CALE and three sisters, Mrs. CLAYTON of Olivet, Illinois, Genevieve and Ruby at home, also two brothers, Robert CALE of Bettendorf, Iowa and Charles at home.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. COOPER a son. This large family finds a place for another.

Dr. A. J. DAVIS of Charleston, died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. E. McMILLEN, Keokuk, Iowa. He was a native of Adams County, Illinois, born about 1845. Also surviving is a son Harry DAVIS of St.Louis, Missouri. His wife died in 1911.

James HANEY was born in Antrim County Ireland, 8 March 1819 and died 7 July 1920. He came to Canada when six, then to the U.S. and finally settled in Sandusky in 1870. When he died he was probably the oldest person in Lee County. He served in the Union Army from 60 to 65. Leaves three children, Wm. HANEY of Summitville, Mrs. Lemuel ANDREWS of Keokuk, and Mrs. Ed. FOWLER of Sandusky.

C.R. McKILLYS? Married Miss Edith WORDEN, daughter of Mrs. J.B. WORDEN who formerly lived in Montrose. Took place in Reno, Nevada.

John GLASFORD was born in Oh. 3 August 1847, died at Sandusky, Iowa 15 July 1920. He married Clara S. DORMAN, she preceded him 30 June 1897. They had four children, Jessie GLASFORD of Ft. Madison, John of Sandusky, Jane KNOX, deceased, and Mrs. Wm. COOPER of Montrose, Iowa. On 17 June 1899, he married Mrs. Sarah SNIDER. She also survives.
The remains of Mrs. T.B. JONES, mother of Mrs. C.W. HUNT of Hannibal, Missouri, who passed away at Winfield, Kansas, Sunday, arrived in Hannibal, Monday. After services there the body was taken to Montrose. Surviving her are three children; Mrs. HUNT of Hannibal, Missouri, Dr. Charles JONES of Olather, Kansas and Dr. H.H. JONES of Winfield, Kansas and four sisters and one brother. Buried Montrose cemetery.
Everett Allen PHILP died at his home Monday. He was born 24 December 1899, near Montrose. His mother preceded him in death two years ago in January. He leaves his father, Allen PHILP, two brothers, Ralph at home and Willism J. at Camp Dodge, Iowa, two sisters, Vera, and Helen at home. The body was interred in the new cemetery.
Fred BARTHUSCH was born in Germany in 1851 and died at Montrose, Iowa in July 1920. He came to this country in 1878 and settled in Ft.Madison. He was married to Mary NORKUM and had nine children, five survive. He came to Montrose in 1912 and in 1913, he married Mrs. Anna SHEPARD. She survives as do the children.
Death has been busy, Miss Jennie MCGREER of near Donnellson was buried Sunday. Mrs. JONES(MCBRIDE) was buried Tuesday, besides the above.
John SAMPAE of Centerville, Iowa and Mrs. Maude CASPER of Donnellson, Iowa were married Saturday. Will live in Ft .Madison.

George M. WILCOX, the youngest brother of our fellow townsman, F.O. WILCOX, died in his home in Billingham, Washington. Leaves wife and two children.
To Mr. and Mrs. Harold WORSTER of Keokuk a daughter, Tuesday. The babe was buried in the Montrose cemetery that afternoon.

Mrs. Melissa JOHNSON MEINERT was born in McConnelsville, Oh. 12 February 1839. Her parents came to Iowa in 1852, located at Keokuk from where they moved to Montrose. On the 12 of April 1857, she married Adolph JOHNSON who survives her. They had nine children with six dying in infancy. Mrs. Stella DAYTON of Kansas City, Samuel of Myrtle Point, Or., L. A. JOHNSON of Keokuk are the surviving three. Buried Montrose.

At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert VANAUSDALL, on the middle road, Wednesday, when their oldest daughter, Lena, became the bride of Russell HANCOCK, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Mont HANCOCK of Montrose. ( Russell and Lenas only daughter was in high school with me. She is deceased now as is her only brother, Don, who lived in Ca. I don’t remember who he married but she married Joe Blaize.
George W. WELSHYMER died 6 September 1920 in Philadelphia, Pa. He was born 12 December 1834. He was united in marriage to Minerva Alice RICHARDSON in Montrose June 1857, who passed away in Keokuk, Iowa 21 February 1905. They had five children, two of whom are living. Mrs. J. BLAKESLEE of Philadelphia and W.H. WELSHYMER of Burlington, Iowa. In 1854, he came up the Mississippi River on a steam boat as far as Alexandria, Missouri, then up the Des Moines River to St. Francisville, Missouri, from there he walked to what used to Dickie Browns tavern, overlooking Montrose on the old Plank Road. He went from there to Keokuk, worked at his trade as baker and confectioner for a short time. He then hired out as a stage driver from Keokuk to Montrose. After his marriage he located in Montrose where he lived 35 years. He was a volunteer in the Civil War and served four years and ten months and 13 days. After war he followed Steam boating until about 10 years ago. Buried in Pa.
Jacob STEINER died in Detroit Thursday. He was born in Switzerland, 27 May 1888. He married 8 July 1903 to Miss Alvina Mae STROM? Of Nauvoo, Illinois and she with one child, Kenneth, his mother, and his brothers (didn’t say but I assume they all survive) His remains arrived in Ft. Madison Saturday and wwere brought to the home of his mother where the funeral took place.

Frank M. BALLINGER who was born in Montrose, and who has lived all his life in this vicinity, took his life last Friday. The following note was taken from the Gate City.
Mr. James S. BURROWS Dear Jim I have played the game of life from almost every angle and it is now time to cash in. I am rpidly losing my sight and hearing. Rheumatism has set in in my crippled leg and shoulder. My mental condition is not what it use to be. I have not been myself for the last five or six weeks. To live longer would cause me to be a burden and a care on relatives and friends. Tell Ed VAUGHN to plant me quickly and cheaply in the Montrose cemetery. I have no relatives here. All my brothers and sisters are either on the Atlantic or Pacific coast and are too far away to come to my funeral. There is no one else to notify. P.S. My life insurance will pay all claims. P.S. I wish I could tell you the real cause, but she had better go without it.

Andrew J. LINQUIST, a farmer in this vicinity for many years, died 21 September at his home between Montrose and Argyle. He was born in Sweden and 52. He came to this country when a small child with his parents to Chicago then to here many years ago. Leaves wife, three sons, one daughter, two brothers, one Charles of Keokuk. Buried Anderson cemetery, west of Summitville.

Miss Ruby VANAUSDALL married Mr. A.W. SAILER last Saturday. Bride is the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George VANAUSDALL of Montrose. Groom is the son of the late Dr. SAILOR and his widow also of Montrose. Will live in Montrose.
Miss Florence SUNDEEN of New Boston married Dewey WYRICK of Jefferson. Will live on the WYRICK farm.
Maria MILLER was born at Baltimore, Maryland 22 October 1835. Died 25 September 1920. She came to Iowa in 1849 and was married to Thomas PICKERING in 1854 who died in 1901. Survived by one son; James W. PICKERING of this place. She was the mother of nine children, four died in infancy and four after reaching maturity. Buried Donnellson cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank VENNING MONARE 27 September a son. They named him Frank DENMIRE VENNING JR. (I’m not sure this is all right)
Mr. and Mrs. MEYERS of Bettendorf, a son named Eugene Herbert. Mrs. MEYERS is the former Margaret FORLAUFER.

Miss Freda HANCOCK married Oscar OWEN of Sandusky at her parents home, Mr. and Mrs. Mont HANCOCK. Will live in Sandusky at the COLLINS residence.
Miss Mae FOUST, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John FOUST in Anderson, In., ,married Harry FRUEHLING of Montrose, Iowa. Wedding was 27 October. Will live in Montrose.

Sarah Ann TURNER was born 4 March ? at High Hesket England. In March of 1847, the family came to America by sailing vessel. Landed at New Orleans and from there to Keokuk, Iowa, then to Denmark. In 1861 the family moved to a farm two miles S.E. of Argyle. She then taught school in Lee County and Clark County Missouri. She married 26 December 1867 to Edward H. ALVIS, who died 30 December 1914. She leaves two sons, W.E. ALVIS and C.R. ALVIS, one sister Mrs. Mary J. SEIFERHELD. Buried Meek cemetery near Vincennes, Iowa.
Leo PFLEGERSTOFER and Miss Marie REDDY were married in Keokuk Wednesday. Will live near Charleston on a farm.

Leaves wife, parents, brothers and sisters: Misses Emma and Katie BARNES at home, Charles E. and Frank E. of St Louis, Missouri, James M., Harry H. and Hugh of Charleston. Buried Charleston cemetery.

Sidney HOLMES and wife of Charleston, have a new girl born 8 December.
Mrs. W.B. HALLON of Keokuk, died last Sunday. Had lived on the HATTON farm near Montrose most of her married life. Had moved to Keokuk in 1914. Mary Therese FINERTY was born 17 May 1853 in Allegheny, Pa. She moved West of Montrose when a child and had lived there till moving to Keokuk. She married W. B. HATTON 11 June 1877. Survived by husband, six children, Henry of Sioux City, Peter of Montrose, Emmett of Philadelphia, Mrs. E. A. MCKEE of Keokuk, Mrs. C.K. SANTO of Quincy, and Miss Catherine HATTON of Keokuk. She also has one brother, Michael FINNERTY of Denver, Co., It was just a short time ago that her son died in a Drs. Office.
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse FREUHLING have a son, born 6 December.
