Newberry DNA Project

To: Newberry/Newbury Descendants:

A DNA project is being set up for the Newberry surname.  If you are interested, please read on:

The first phase of the project will compare the DNA of known Newberry progenitors in New England through provable lineages. The founders are:

1. Thomas Newberry of co. Dorset, England son of Richard Newberye, Gent. and Grace Matthews.
Thomas was born 10 Nov. 1594 and emigrated to New England with his second wife and family in
1630 & 1634. Their sons were Joseph, Benjamin and John. He died in 1635, in Dorchester, MA.

2. Richard Newbury of unknown co. (possibly Dorset) England, parents unknown, emigrated to New
England between 1634-1638, but before 1640.  He married Sarah Robinson and died in Malden,
Middlesex, Massachusetts in 1685.

3. Walter Newbury of unknown co. England, arrived circa 1670 with his wife Ann Collins. Resided in Rhode Island, d. 1697.  His descendants were thought to have spread to the southern states.

Other families will also be studied in the future as they are identified and the project takes shape.

In the next few weeks, a surname project will be established with the firm - DNA Consultants of Scottsdale, Arizona.  Your participation would be greatly appreciated. Not only do we need male descendants who can prove their direct father to son lineage from the founding three; we could also use help in locating other appropriate participants. All participants must have reasonably documented, provable lineages.  More information about the cost of these tests will be available soon. Volume discounts are available.

One thing is for certain, this work will be helpful in demolishing the brick walls we have encountered. If you wish to participate, or can suggest other test subjects, please contact the test coordinator through this email address - goldsage@aol.com. In the subject line, please note "Newberry DNA Project."  More information will be forwarded to those who are interested in the project
