“HISTORY OF THE PACKET LINES AND STEAMBOATS OF THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF STEAM BOATING ON THE MISSISSIPPI”

Capt. F. A. Whitney,
Centerville, Iowa

From the Saturday Evening Post,  Burlington, Iowa

.  “Montrose has no bridge but has a steam ferry.  A ferry makes daily trips between Montrose, Iowa, and Nauvoo, Ill., as there is no railroad in Nauvoo.  The ferry does a fine business, and her captain and owner, John Rheimbold is very popular with the shippers and traveling public.”
