WILLIAM HENRY
GRISWOLD, farmer of Jefferson Twp., Lee co,IA, died Tuesday morning Feb 14,
1899. He would have been 70 yrs old next August 6. He came to Lee co,IA in the
spring of 1851 from Nauvoo, Ill. He was born in the Empire State, Wayne co, on
Aug 6, 1829. In Nov. 1854, he married in Jefferson Twp, Lee co,IA, Miss Sybilia
Oberly, who died June 2, 1873 and on May 6, 1884, he married -2nd- Miss Lizzie
Glancy. From the 1st marriage, 3 children survive- Willard, Sallie, Oberly.
Of the 2nd
marriage, 1 child was born.
Funeral Thursday

SKYLES--At his residence in Jefferson
township, Lee county, Iowa, Monday, December 23, 1901, at 1 o'clock a.m.,
Benjamin Skyles, aged 91 years, 3 months and 29 days.
The deceased was born in West Tennessee,
(Jackson County) August 24, 1810, and in 1818 came west with his parents to
Missouri and from that state to Illinois, where he remained ten years, and while
there was united in marriage with Miss Hannah Peak in 1833. Mr. Skyles came to
lee county five years later, where the wife died. In 1864 he married Miss
Elizabeth Conlee, who survives him. Ten children were born of the first
marriage.
Mr. Skyles was a prosperous farmer of
Jefferson township, respected by all.
Funeral on Christmas Day. Interment in
the Wilson cemetery.
The surviving children are: Thomas A.,
F.J., G.W., Mr.R., John, Mrs. W.H. South of Charleston township, Mrs. Nancy
Sniveley of West Point township and Mrs. James Griswold of near Macuta Station
in Jefferson township. Mrs. F.B. (Fannie) Kent, another daughter, died a few
years ago.
