HICKORY GROVE CEMETERY
Mary Kellogg Lowry -- July 12, 1867-May 31,
1943
LOWRY, KELLOGG, BISHOP, HARPER
Mrs. John S. Lowry, 75 a resident of Lee County for the past half century, died
a 4:15 o’clock, Monday afternoon, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ethel
Walter, near Argyle, with whom she resided. She had been in failing health for
the past three months, but had been seriously ill for only a few days.
Mary Kellogg, daughter of Newton D. and Sarah Bishop Kellogg, was born at
Memphis, Missouri, on July 12, 1867, and was married at Athens, Missouri, on
October 19, 1887, to John S. Lowry. Immediately after their marriage they came
to Lee County and made their home here the remainder of their lives. Mr. Lowry
died on December 21, 1928.
Mrs. Lowry was a member of the Methodist church at Athens, but had been
exceptionally active with the Ladies’ Aid Society of the Oak Grove church, which
she entertained at her daughter’s home only last week. A kindly and thoughtful
woman, Mrs. Lowry was happiest when she was among members of her family and with
her grandchildren.
Surviving besides her daughter are one son, Chester Lowry; one sister, Mrs.
Frances Harper of Hampton, Virginia; three grandchildren and four great
grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. One son died at the age of
two years.
The body was removed to the Schmidt Memorial home where funeral services will be
held at 2 o’clock on Thursday afternoon. Burial will be made in the Hickory
Grove cemetery.
