Mrs. Sim Griswold, 57, of 2610 Ave.K, Fort Madison,IA, a resident of Ft. Madison all her life, died at 4 am at her home today, ill 5 months.  Born March 31, 1877 at New Boston,IA.  Married Sept 25,1898 to Sim Griswold at Charleston,Ia.  Her maiden name was Geneva Martha Swinderman.  Member Santa Fe Methodist church.  Survived by her husband and 3 sons- Frank M., Howard,  Fred, Maurice, all Ft. Madison;  3 daughters, Mrs. George Dovin, Ft. Madison,IA; Miss Esther K., Albuquerque, New Mexico;  Miss Ellen Margaret, Ft. Madison,IA;  1 sister, Mrs. Harry Pezley, Montrose,IA;  6 brothers: Lawrence Swinderman, Charleston,IA; Edward A. , Charleston IA; Joseph C. of Carthage, South Dakota;  William A. of Donnellson,IA;  Walter G. of New Boston,IA;  (1 missing)

Also survived by 2 grandsons- Myron and Richard Griswold;  Her parents, 5 children and 1 brother Frank Swinderman preceded her, her brother dying on Nov 2, 1933.  Funeral 2:30 Sunday at Santa Fe Church.  Buried Elmwood Cem.

  S. GRISWOLD DIES THURSDAY

     Simeon Griswold, 61, 2310 Avenue K, an engineer on the Santa Fe railroad, died Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock soon after attempting to reach the Santa Fe hospital in an ambulance.  Death was due to a heart attack.  He had been ill only one hour.

  Mr. Griswold was born in Jefferson township, Lee county, October 9,1876.  He had been a resident of Fort Madison 40 years and during the past 36 years has been employed as an engineer on the Santa Fe road.  He was married to Geneva M. Swinderman in Charleston,Iowa in September 1898.  Mrs. Griswold preceded him in death November 9,1934.  Mr. Griswold was a member of the Santa Fe Avenue Methodist church, Claypoole lodge No. 13, A.F. & A.M. Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, and was chief Engineer Division No 391.

  Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Magnolia Griswold, Montrose,Iowa;  three sons, Frank, Howard, and Morris Griswold all of Fort Madison;  three daughters, Mrs. Grace Dovin, FM; Mrs. Vernette Wilhelm, FM; Mrs. Nick Pardue, Belen,NM;  four brothers: Victor Griswold, FM;  Don Griswold, Clarinda,IA;  Kenneth Griswold, Maywood, Los Angeles, CA; and Hurd Griswold, Charleston,IA;  four sisters, Mrs. James Vermasen, Charleston,IA; Mrs. Eva Maxfield, Montrose,IA; Mrs Charles Wardlow & Miss Bessie Griswold,Montrose;  six grandchildren, Myron,Richard, Simeon, and Patrick Griswold, Patsy Lee Pardue and Beverly June Wilhelm.  Services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Santa Fe Avenue Methodist Church, Rev. John S. Ellis, officiating.  Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.  There will be Masonic services at the grave by Claypoole lodge.  The body will be at Clement's chapel until 9 o'clock Sunday morning when it will be taken to the residence.[Griswold.FTW]
