Don Cruikshank Dies Sunday in Iowa City
Donald W. Cruikshank, 25, of Montrose, who was critically injured in an automobile accident south of Montrose last Tuesday night, died at 9:35 a.m. Sunday in the Veterans hospital at Iowa City.
The son of Theodore C and Elaine Rokey Cruikshank, he was born June 14, 1932 at Donnellson. He lived most of his life in Montrose where he graduated from the Montrose high school in 1950.
He married Zela Phipps at the First Congregational church here on July 27, 1952. She survives.
He was agent for the Monarch Life Insurance Company.
He entered the armed forces September 12, 1953 and was discharged December 2, 1956.
He was a member of the Montrose Presbyterian church, Joppa Lodge No. 136, A. F. & A. M. and Martha Chapter No 5 Order of Eastern Star, all of Montrose.
Surviving besides his wife and parents Mr. and Mrs. Theodore C Curikshank of Sarasota, Fla and formerly of Montrose, are a sister, Janet S. Cruikshank of Montrose, a brother, James E. Cruikshank of Fort Madison, a grandfather Fred A . Rokey of Montrose, a niece, Nancy Lynn Cruikshank of Fort Madison and a nephew Richard Lee Parks of California as well as other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a son David Wayne, who died Dec 14, 1954.
Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Schmidt Memorial Home. Masonic services were conducted and burial was in the Donnell cemetery at Donnellson

Lucille Church Rokey

Mrs. Lucille Rokey, 39, passed away in Sacred Heart hospital in Fort Madison at 5:35a.m. Thursday, Dec 2 following an operation. She had been ill only two days.
Born July 14, 1915 near Argyle, she was a lifelong resident of this vicinity and a member of the Embury Methodist church, of the W.S. C.S. of the church and chaplain of the DeMolay Mothers club.
On August 13, 1936 at Canton Ill she was united in marriage to Earl Rokey, who survives as do also one son Robert and one daughter Carolyn, both at home, her father A. W. Church of Argyle, three brothers, Lester and Kenneth Church , both of Argyle and Bernard of Fort Madison and one sister, Mrs. Jean Glassford of Arglyle.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois and Mabel.
Funeral services were held in Embury Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Everett K. Burham officiating.
Mrs. Thos J. Thornton and Richard Jones sang "God Will Take Care of You" and "Beyond the Sunset" accompanied by Mrs. Burham
The body was laid to rest in the Donnell cemetery, the following being pallbeareers, Paul Bowen, L L Hodson, Wesley Perrott, Richard Koller, Bryan Starr and David T. Hirshler.

Lula Mae Humphrey Rokey

Lula M Humphrey, daughter of Oliver A and Janet Patterson Humphrey, was born near Granger, Missouri, May 25, 1883, and passed away at the Graham hospital at Keokuk, Iowa, Wednesday evening July 29 at 11:30 pm after a serious illness of about four weeks, at the age of 59 years, 2 months, and 4 days.
On July 7th, 1901, she was united in marriage to Fred A Rokey at Keokuk, Iowa. To this union two children were born: Earl, of Donnellson and Mrs. Elaine Cruikshank of Montrose.
She is survived by her husband, Fred A Rokey, the above named son and daughter, four grandchildren, Janet, James and Donald Cruikshank and Robert Rokey: one brother E. R. Humphrey of Alton, Ill, one sister Mrs. B W Kriming of Trojan S.D. and one aunt Christina Opstelton of Keokuk, IA, a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was a Gold Star member of the Donnellson Chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary. All her life she has been respected and loved by a large circle of friends and neighbors and was always interested in the welfare and comfort of others.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Donnellson, Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and were conducted by Rev R. F. Sturgell and Rev. R. C. Murdock.
The choir of the church sang the hymns "No Night There" and "It is Well with My Soul." They were accompanied by Mrs. Laura Armknecht.
The body was laid to rest in the Donnell cemetery, the following being pallbearers, Francis Parsons, Ferdidand Kirchner, J. W. Downey, Frank Hurley, William Heinold and Joseph Hand.

Fredrick A. Rokey

Fred August Rokey, 86, of Montrose, died in the home of his daughter Mrs. T. C. Cruikshank Saturday at 4:30 p.m. He had been in failing health for some time, but his death was very sudden.
The son of the late Christian and Julia Ann Schweer Rokey, he was born January 24, 1875 in Lee county and was a lifelong resident of this vicinity. He was a retired farmer.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church at Montrose and a 50 year member of the IOOF Lodge at Keokuk.
In January 1901 he was married to Lulu Mae Humphrey, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son Earl Rokey of Donnellson, one daughter Mrs. T. C. Cruickshank of Montrose, one brother William of Keokuk, one sister, Mrs. Minnie Welsch of Keokuk, four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, one grandson, and one great grandson.
Funeral services were held in Millers' Home for Funerals on Tuesday at 2:00 p.mom with Rev. J. Sherrill Gohde offication.
Mrs. Robert Yoder sand "Ivory Palaces" and "It is Well With My Soul" accompanied by Mrs. Delmar Hirschler.
Interment was in the Donnell Cemetery, the following serving as pallbearers, Wm Auwaerter Jr, George Halm, Cecil Perty, Howard Hummel, Ralph Curtis, Ross Simpson
