The Monticello
library is a fixture in the community. It is about to be replaced and a
new library is to be built on First Street. The post card shows the
original exterior. It currently is covered with stucco and that is part
of the problem with the library. The brick was crumbling and someone
thought that covering it would help preserve it. It did not. The library
was also initially constructed for loads along the exterior walls, not
in the middle of the floor. The city has outgrown the building and it
appears that a new building will be in the near future.
