According to
the Monticello Express, 23 April 1903: "The CM&St P Ry civil
engineers have laid off the grounds for the new depot at Monticello, and
the changes made in the yard track. The work of constructing the depot
will shortly commence. Some of the lumber has already arrived."
The CM&ST Paul Depot, was located on what is the "new" Monticello State
Bank and a small park next to the bank that the bank owns. The building
was torn down in December 1981. No one knows for sure if it was the
original depot building or not, lots of changes to the building over
time but the building looked pretty close to your post card until it was
torn down. There are no railroads left in Jones County, at one time the
county had at least three, the Milwaukee, the Rock Island, and a short
line the Midland.
