√ Hammond, George |
√ Sept. 25, 1861 |
√ disd. Dec. 31, 1861 |
√ I have a grave in Jones County, at Olin Cemetery for George Hammond. The 9th Iowa Infantry roster states George Hammond was from "Jackson" and he enlisted at age 37 in September of 1861. I checked the census to determine if this could possibly be someone from Jones county that might have been missed in the record of what were considered veterans from Jones County. There is a George Hammond in Jackson Township, Jones county in the 1860 census whose age is 36! So I do believe the veterans grave in Olin Cemetery for George Hammond should be considered as one of the men who came from Jones County that was missed in the Adjuntant General's Report as being from Jones County because it was reported he was from "Jackson" and no one could determine what or where Jackson was.
