Welcome to the Iowa City Genealogical Society! We are pleased to have you join us in “digging our family roots.”
Our Society had its first meeting on 7 February 1967 and we have been going strong ever since. The first year we averaged 11 members; now we have about 110.
Briefly our objectives are to create and foster an interest in genealogy; to acquire, preserve, and disseminate genealogical information; to support the State Historical Society of Iowa Library and the Iowa Genealogical Society, to aid members in compiling family histories; and to maintain and increase our enjoyment of genealogy.
Our members work on their own personal family histories and genealogies. Some have published. Some of our members also work on Society projects; many of these are published through the Iowa Genealogical Society on a profit-sharing program.
We have posted a few new member items for you at the bottom of this page, including a copy of the ICGS Bylaws, a list of our ICGS publications, and a list of the library books available to members for checkout during our monthly meetings.
As a member, you will receive a newsletter ten times a year advising you of meeting dates, places, programs, and other items of general interest. You probably are aware that members with access to e-mail may choose to receive their copies of the newsletter electronically, please keep us up to date with any changes to your mailing address.
Members may download current and past ICGS newsletters from this website. You will also find other genealogical information, especially that related to Johnson County, IA on our main website at http://iagenweb.org/johnson/.
We hope you will consider joining ICGS. Feel free to let us know if we can assist you.
