John Alton Fowler

John
Alton “Big John” Fowler, 57, of 522 E. College Street, died Sunday,
December 12, 1999 due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident
north of Acapulco, Mexico.
Service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.
Mr.
Fowler was born June 29, 1942, in Grand Island, Nebraska to Myron and
Edythe (Diemer) Fowler. He graduated from Iowa City High School
in 1960, where he played football. He attended the University of
Iowa and had been a member of the Hawkeye football team. He was
active in automotive repair and service for 25 years, including owning
Le Garage and Big John’s Auto.
He was a member of the
Experimental Aircraft Association, the Hy-Vee Breakfast Club, the BMW
Pure Stodge Touring Association, and the local chapter of the Hawkeye
Harley Owners Group. He made many trips to Mexico as well as a
1994 tour of the Panama Canal and other Central American countries.
Survivors
include his companion, Mary Geasland, of Iowa City; two sons, John
Fowler, of Iowa City, Steven Fowler and his wife, DeeDee of DeWitt;
Mary’s children, David Geasland and Patrick Gealand both of Iowa City,
Darlene Brown of Longmont, Colo; his former wife Sally Moore of Iowa
City; two brothers, James Fowler of Kansas City, Mo, Mike Fowler of
Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren; and Mary’s two grandchildren.
His parents died earlier.
