George Crissinger Will Celebrate His 80th Birthday Next Sunday

Sunday, August 1st, Mr. George Crissinger will celebrate his 80th birthday.

Mr. Crissinger can truthfully he termed one of the "old timers" in this vicinity. He has resided near and in Oxford all his life since he was ten years old, except for two years, one of which was spent in Cherokee county and the other near Victor, Iowa.

Born August 1, 1857 at Columbiana, Ohio, he came to Iowa at the age of ten with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Crissinger. They located in Iowa County. George attended the rural schools of Iowa county after which he worked on his father's farm a while, later farming for himself.

On November 21, 1877, he was united in marriage with Harriett Newmire. This happy union existed for fifty-two years; Mrs. Crissinger passed to her reward November 5, 1929.

After 45 years of farming, Mr. Crissinger moved to Oxford in March 1917. For ten years he worked for the post office here, meeting all trains and delivering the mail to the local post office. He retired from this work in September, 1934.

For over 47 years, Mr. Crissinger has been a member of the Masonic lodge and enjoys

to the fullest extent its fraternal gatherings.

Mr. Crissinger hs four daughters, Mrs. Fred Gegenheimer, Mrs. Roy Hardy and Mrs. Fred Wagner of Oxford and Mrs. George Jones of Brooklyn. He has one son, James Crissinger who resides at Cedar Rapids.

At 80 Mr. Crissinger enjoys good health and a pleasant disposition. He has many friends both in Iowa and Johnson counties, who we are sure will join with us in wishing him many more happy birthdays.
