Considering the stiff competition that the local golf team has encountered this last season the Newton golf team has had a fairly successful season. The local team composed of Donald Johnson, Max Gralnek, Frankie O'Connor, Claude Bailey, and George Gerhart, lost two matches to Roosevelt and East High School of Des Moines by a very close margin.
At the annual Central Iowa High School conference golf meet at Oskaloosa on May 4, the local team placed second, with Marshalltown capturing first place, while Frankie turned in the best individual score of 84 for 18 holes for best individual medal score.
