Our family had always talked about going to Europe to visit the homelands of our ancestors when "our ship came in." In 1988 we decided we couldn't wait any longer. Our first place to visit was Rhodt, Germany because that's where our third great grandfather was born. G. W. Hitchler was the founder of Metz, Iowa.
