in 1830. He moved to Nodaway Co., MO in 1870, and located in this
county in 1878. He married Masrinda OLIVER in 1856. She was born in
the same county and State in 1838. their children are Charles C.,
Kittie Estola, Emma, and Oren Dayton. They are members of the M. E.

AUSTIN, Henry A.
Farmer, Sec. 28, P. O. Lynnville. He was born in Cumberland Co., ME
in 1843. he located in this county in 1869. He married Miss Mary
REYNOLDS in 1868. She was born in Kennebec Co, ME in 1848. They had
three children-- Lulajuene, Eugene E., and a baby. She is a
Mehodist. He is a Republican. He owns 420 acres of land worth $25
an acre. He was on this land when 19 years of age, his father
having located it twenty-five years ago. It is one of the best stock
farms in this country.
BROOKE, R. M.
Farmer, Sec. 4, P.O. Kellogg. He was born in Seneca Co., OH in 1836
and located in this county in 1852. He married Miss S. J. CROUCH in
1858. She was born in Randolph Co., VA in 1842. Their children are
Rosey, Ida, Oliver H., Agreen, Charles L., Anna, Daisey and Maud. He
is a Republican, owns 400 acres of land valued at $25 an acre.
BUSHONG, George W.
Farmer, Sec. 36, P.O. Lynnville. He was born in Logan Co., OH in 1834
and located in this county in 1858. Enlisted in 10th I. V. I., Co F
on 20 Aug 1861. He mustered out 11 Oct 1864 at Davenport, Iowa.
He then located in Poweshiek Co, IA, returned to this county in 1866.
He married Miss Elizabeth PHILLIPS in 1856. She was born in Putnam
Co., OH in 1837. Their children are U. Abra, William A., M. E. J.,
Charles E. They are members of the Christian Church. He is a
Republican. He lives with his father and cultivates their farm of
eighty acres.
CLOSE, George W.
Farmer, Sec. 21, P. O. Kellogg. He was born in Albany co., NY in
1805. He moved to Scott Co., IN in 1818, going next to Hamilton Co.,
Ohio, in 1826. He went to Pontiac, MI in 1829 where he contracted
and jobbed on the building and repairing roads for fours years. He
located in Oakland Co., MI in 1833, in Bureau Co., IL in 1844. He
located in this county in 1864. Me married Miss P. GATES. She was
born in Oneida Co., NY in 1809. Their children are John C., and Mary
Esta (VEBER). They are members of the Christian Church. He owns 130
acres of land, with a good bearing apple orchard of 400 trees, valued
at $40 per acre.
DEAN, Emerson S.
Farmer, Sec 16, P. O. Kellogg. He was born in Windham Co., CT in
1807. He moved to La Salle Co., IL in 1835 and to Livingston Co.,
seven years later. He located in this county in 1864. He married
Nancy MARKS who was born near Circleville, OH. Their children are:
Hanna P., Jacob M., Unis J., Rebecca A., Mary F., Philip L., and
Thompson. He is a Republican and owns 280 acres of land valued at
$35 an acre. He is engaged in breeding full-blooded stock,
short-horns, etc.
DOANE, Bradley W.
Farmer, Sec. 7, P.O. Kellogg. He was born in Windham Co. VT in 1845
and located in this county in 1868. He married Lavenia DELAY in
1869. She was born in Highland Co., OH in 1850. Their children are
Frank, Fred, and Clara. he is a Republican. He enlisted in Co E,
36th IL V. in 1861, and was discharged on account of disability in
1863. He owns 151 acres of land, valued at $35 an acre.
DOANE, C. N.
Farmer, Sec 18, P.O. Kellogg. He was born in Windham Co. VT in 1842,
and located in this county in 1868. He married Mary F. DEAN in
1879. She was born in La Salle Co., IL in 1852. Their children are
Albert M., and Warner L. He is a Republican and is a member of the
County Board of Supervisors, has held the position the past three
years, also Secretary of the School Board. He owns eighty acres,
valued at $30 per acre. He enlisted in the 36th IL V, Co E, in 1861.
He mustered out in Feb 1863, from the effects of wounds received at
the battle of Stone River, 31 Dec 1862. He receives a pension of $8
a month.
FAWCETT, Edward
Farmer, Sec. 9, P. O. Grinnell. He was born in Belmont County, Ohio
in 1833. He located in this county in 1855, and married Elizabeth
MORRISON in 1860. She was born in Erie Co., NY in 1832. Their
children are Alonzo A., Edwin, Rachel E., Marion, Thomas and Mary.
They are members of the M. E. Church. He is a Republican. They own
280 acres of land valued at $25 per acre.
GARDNER, Simon
Farmer, Sec. 7, P. O. Kellogg. He was born in Cambridge, England in
1817 and located in this county in 1846. He went to Iowa Co., Wisc.,
thence to California, where he remained four and a half years, and
then located in this county in 1856. He married Henrietta ORWIN in
1857. she was born in England, and has four children by a former
husband. They are members of the M. E. Church. He is a Republican.
He owns 170 acres valued at $35 per acre.
GOODNOUGH, George
Farmer, Sec. 7, P. O. Kellogg. He was born in Broomfield, Isabella
Co., Michigan in 1841. He located in this county in 1868 and married
Sarah M. HOISINGTON in 1867. She was born in Illinois in 1840.
Their children are Lillia G., D. C., Myra M., and George F. They are
members of the M. E. Church. He is a Republican; he rents eighty
acres of land, which he has in a high state of cultivation.
HIATT, R. C.
Farmer, Sec. 24, P. O. Oak Grove. He was born in Henry Co., Iowa in
1845. He located in Poweshiek Co., Iowa in 1865, and in this county in
1867. He married Sarah S. SHARPLES in 1867. She was born in Morrow
Co., OH in 1842. Their children are Clarence C., Albert J., Anna
E., and Lydia B.. They are members of the Friends' Society. He is a
Republican. He has sold his farm and rented 100 acres.
HOOVER, J. D.
Farmer, Sec. 9, P. O. Kellogg. He was born in Clearfield Co, PA in
1834 and located in this county in 1868. He married Mary E. HIRDMAN
in 1861. She was born in the same county and State in 1841. Their
children are John W., Mary D., Hattie, William, Jesse, and baby.
They are members of the U. B. Church. He owns eighty acres of land
valued at $25 per acre. He enlisted in Co. C. 76th PA V. I., and
mustered out at the close of war in 1865 in Harrisburg, PA. He went
with Sherman on his march to the sea as far as Raleigh, NC, where his
regiment was put on garrison duty. He was with Gen. Terry at the
capture of Fort Fisher.
HORN, L. H.
Farmer, Sec. 23, P. O. Lynnville. He was born in Washington Co., PA
in 1845. He located in Keokuk in 1866 and in this county in 1871.
He married Miss E. STARR in 1872. She was born in this county in
1850. They have two children-- Nettie May and Willie E. They are
members of the M. E. Church. He owns eighty acres of land, valued at
$35 per acre. He is a Greenbacker.
KIMBERLY, W. C.

1842 and located in this county in 1861. He married Emily E.
PARKER, who was born in Indiana in 1842. They have two
children-- Lulu Bell and Emma G. They are Baptists, and he is a

Justice of the Peace four years, and holds the office at the present
time.

wife Sally Doan in 1876. She was born in North Carolina. They have
one child-- baby. They are members of the Friends' Society. He is a

Christy A. By a former marriage he had 10 children, of whom seven
are living. Mrs. Meredith had four children by a former marriage.

1807. He moved to Canada in 1808, returned to Jefferson Co., OH in
1815, thence to Belmont Co., in 1818. He went to Knox Co. in 1841, to
Whiteside Co., IL in 1845, to Keokuk Co., Iowa in 1865 and to this
county in 1868. He married Mary SPENCER in 1828. She was born in
Virginia in 1805, and died in 1872. Their children living are
Lavinia, Eliza, Ann, Rachel, Nathan and Jesse. They are members of
the Hicksite branch of the Friends' Society. He has been Town Clerk,
Treasurer, and School Director. He owns eighty acres of land,

in 1828. He located in this county in 1865. He married Catherine

He married Tabetha SCOTT in 1854. She was born in Jefferson Co. OH
in 1834. Their children are I. S., John M., W. J., Adeline J., Effie
E., Minnie May, and Arthur V. He is a Republican. He owns 220
acres of land valued at $30 per acre. He enlisted in 127th IL V. I.
in 1862, and was promoted to 1st Sgt. He was wounded at Ezra Church
battle of Atlanta, GA, 28 Jul 1864. He rejoined his regiment in the
October following. He was with Sherman in his march to the sea, and
was mustered out in Chicago in 1865.

in 1835, and located in this county in 1866. He married his wife,
Margaret in 1856. She was born in Harrison Co., OH in 1841. Their
children are William, Mary J. and Ann. He is a Republican, and he

RUTLEDGE, D. M.
Farmer, Sec 2, P.O. Grinnell. He was born in Kentucky in 1819 and
located in this county in 1846. He moved to Poweshiek Co., Iowa in
1848, and returned to Jasper Co in 1878. He married Mary PATRICK in
1860. She was born in Indiana. Their children are Nelson F.,
Margaret J., Sarah M., William H., Nancy A., and Elsie E. Mrs
Rutledge is a member of the U. B. Church. He owns seventy-five acres

STANLEY, Jesse
Indian mechanical instructor. He was born in Henry Co., IN in 1834
and located in this county in 1858. He married Amy NORTON in 1856.
She was born in the same county and State in 1838. They are members
of the Friends' Church. He owns an improved farm in Sec. 36, valued
at $30 per acre. He has been instructing the Osage and Kaw Indians
in mechanical arts during the last four years, by direction of the
U. S. Government. He moved out with his family in August of 1878,
for permanent location there.
